I'm in the middle of a treasure hunt with my camera club....12 riddles, the answer to each is a place in/around Wakefield (city in Northern England).
The idea is to get out with the camera & snap each place, and together with your other 3 team mates, select the best 12 (3 pics per team member) to illustrate all locations.
Here's my favourite 12 that I've taken.
I'd welcome any feedback, even if you think something's crap!
1) Wakefield Cathedral
2) Kings Arms, Heath
3) Heath Water Tower
4). Tammy Hall Street
5). Castrop Rauxel Square
6). Chantry Bridge Chapel
7). Newmillerdam Boathouse
. Nostell Priory
9). Pontefract Races
10). Sandal Castle
11). Castleford Weir Bridge
12). Theatre Royal Opera House

Wow, that are all very good pictures!
My favourite one is that with the old bridge and the river! I love the light effects in it!
Very nice work!
Number 7 and 10 were my favorite. Very good lighting and focus.
You had some other pretty good ones to, but # 7 and #10 were the ones that stuck out to me.
Good job.
Really nice game, we have a couple photo clubs here in Jamaica and we do mostly flickr trips but i'll suggest this game to them for the next meet up. My favourites were 6, 7, 10 and 11.
I thought you'd like to see my team's final 12 pics for the camera club competition.
Each one of us contributed 3 shots to the final 12 images for judging in a couple of weeks.
Theatre Westgate
Cathedral
Tammy Hall Street
Castrop Rauxel Square
Kings Arms pub, Heath Common
Mary Bolles Water Tower, Heath Common
The trick with this pic was to leave the shutter open for about 20 seconds (on the tripod), run round & "write" with a torch "WCC" (Wakefield Camera Club) for it to record....this ties in with the grafittied interior, plus his ghost-like head is inside the last "C", reflecting the fact the tower's supposed to be haunted! All clever stuff !
Sandal Castle - this is one of my 3.
Chantry Bridge Chapel
Newmillerdam Boathouse
Castleford footbridge - my 2nd pic
Nostell Priory
Pontefract Races - my 3rd pic

Very nice! I love the boat picture especially.
In general, I can't help thinking you might still be able to do a better job with the colors (and the light as well, perhaps). That's what I would focus on in the coming weeks / months if I were you --- I'm not an expert so I cannot really help, it's just that as a spectator I find that a balance could be reached that isn't.
Nice shots. I wonder how you did the effects on the high speed objects, ex like only the lights of the car is shown moving on the other pic.

Only numbers 7, 10 and 12 are mine...the rest are from my team's other members.
I hope mine are the ones you prefer

Thank you....the blurring is quite an easy effect to get with a dslr camera....just slow down the shutter to stay open longer & anything moving past while it's open is recorded as it moves across the field of view. The only other thing you really need is a tripod, as you would never hold the camera still enough in the hand.
Hope that helps.
Brilliant, brilliant work there! I absolutely adore the photo of the Castleford Weir Bridge. The light, and colours are superb - it's all so vibrant.
Keep up the tremendous work.
I liked your photo of the boathouse better than the one your team chose. You captured a very neat light quality in it that I think is far more interesting and successful than the other one that was chosen.
I also loved the photo of the Castleford footbridge. The juxtaposition of the old boat and the very modern looking bridge is a great contrast of times and perhaps ideologies. The way this one is lit is the best part for me. That lighting is incredible!

Just checked, I like yours better indeed (10 and 12 especially) :)
Keep going!
I liked 6, 9, 10 and 11. Can't figure out which I like best though..
Well, the results were announced on monday, with my team joint second.
The 2 winning shots we submitted were the view of the castle ruins & lake, and the footbridge at night. The other 10 points were awarded to other teams, whose pics were, in all honesty, better than ours & worthy winners.
The night was a great success, and everyone agreed it had been a superb item for the club to run.
I'll try & post the winning shots on here, if I can get permission to do so.
Thanks for all the kind words.
