Filmmaking & Graphic Design Portfolio Site

rogue_skydragon
Hi guys!

I am an up and coming filmmaker and graphic artist. Though my passions encompass a wide range of artistic media, my focus is primarily the crafts of Cinematography and Graphic Design. I'm studying Film & Media at the University of California, Santa Barbara at the moment, and I will be graduating in the coming year. I have created a portfolio website to showcase my works to potential employers and fellow filmmakers and artists and would like for YOU to check it out! It's a bit rough still, but hopefully you'll like it just the same.

www.acepalanca.tk

That's the URL. Peep it!

Best,

Nice, simple design, I like it a lot. It's very easy to navigate to your site and suits the main purpose (showing portfolio) very well. One minor issue : I didn't like the "Ace Palanca" fonts, it's too "amateurish" for me, haha. but maybe that's just personal taste. Wink

It is a nice, simple site. The logo at the top looks a little amateur because it is a bit pixelated in parts. I've also always felt that .tk domain names are unprofessional because they can be gotten for free. Good job otherwise.

Not too bad, some big errors on the design though.

Like someone else mentioned, the header doesn't look very professional.

I'd change up the text for the navigation. It looks too cartoonish. If this is going to be your portfolio, it should look somewhat professional. Nothing wrong with being creative, it's actually a good idea, but it just looks too old school.

Same for the title text "news' it's too big. I also don't think you should center everything. It sort of looks like the end of a movie, how everything is always centered. Just left-justify it like it should be and it will look better.

Like your "about" page looks a lot better than the home. Only thing you should do is put the big "about" to the left like the rest of the content and it would look 10 times better. On the bottom picture on your about page, the text is right up against the picture, you should move the text over a pixel or two.

Not bad at all though! Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much for the feedback, guys. I will definitely be making some changes.

I've seen the changes you made. The font is much better now I think. But the background crops are a bit off, IMO. Smoother blending between base color and the pictures would be nice. Maybe you could instead replace them with some sketches like the "May last day is a go" picture up there? Smile

It's definitely looking better.

Instead of using the gray as a background, use a darker blue so it fits in better with your website.

Also, put the title above the thumbnail, not below it. I think you need to downsize the font size just a bit. It's currently a bit large. Not much, but it will make a huge difference if it's just a little smaller.

But it's looking much better.

Good work.

I like it a lot -- could you maybe make some of the videos pop up in Flash or use Flash somewhere else on the rest of the page?

I tried visiting the site just a white ago and this error popped up in Firefox "reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences."

Sad

I am now also getting this same error.

This may be something you want to look into fixing. Any user that has visited your site in the past now has a great chance of being lost.

I myself won't even try to enter it after getting the warning.
