cron jobs

sigT
I have a Drupal site on server 4. Drupal engine tries to execute a cron task to look for updates but fails and I run it manually from the admin panel of Drupal. I wonder, is it possible to set up cron on the site?

The Drupal manual suggests adding a call to /usr/bin/wget to crontab. Obviously, I cannot execute crontab since I have no shell access. Are there other ways of amending crontab?

By the way, I typeset the exact line as it should go to crontab but this forum fails with an error on this line, and so, I had to remove it from this post.

you can't post everything here because of some security settings.

You can set cron tasks in directadmin, look for "Cronjobs".

Thanks. Used cronjobs to set up a job every 20 minutes past each hour. This does not seem to work though. Drupal still reports the last time when I ran the cron.php script manually (yesterday). If cronjobs worked, the time would have been more recent. Where can I read relevant error logs? Maybe /usr/bin/wget is not available?

you could try this:
Code:
/home/yournick/domains/yourdomain/public_html/scripts/drupal.sh http://your-url/cron.php

That script should be able to execute the cron script.

One thing you should change to that script; replace the first line with this:
Code:
#!/usr/local/lib/php

Thanks. I had tried drupal.sh without the change and I have just tried to change the first line as you suggest. Cannot see any effect in either case. Confused

Maybe it should be /usr/local/bin/php?

I tried with the first line

Code:
#!php

and it didn't seem to work either.
