I'm writing a research grant application in theoretical computer science.
In the application, I have to say something about the added value of my research proposal.
The problem is that it's not clear what an added value could be because I cannot find the definition of it. The research grant organisation does not define it.
I colleague of mine suggested that "they want more reasons why they should give the money to you to work on this instead of giving it to someone else to work on something else", which might be implied by the definition, assuming it exists.
I like rigorous definitions. They are convenient and there is always a way to get them right by purely logical means. It would be nice to define "added value" but I don't have enough knowledge to do that.
Does anyone have a definition of "added value"?
For me, trying to define it, is more like defining some peculiar philosophical term that I don't know anything about except it's name
