Auslogics Task Manager

The original windows task manager sucks, so I had been using Process Explorer.

But I wanted to see if there were any other alternatives out there.

Process Explorer is stil the best, but Auslogics Task manager has a better looking interface, easir for first timers to use.

I hope there are better task manager out there and Microsoft decides to install one of these better free task managers by default !!

2) Avira antivir antivirus

3) Avast antivirus

Direct FTP is great, but I do not know about Wise FTP since I haven't tried it yet. I like the way Direct FTP helps one edit pages directly from the server. But that would be redundant if one already has EditPlus with its ability to open a page directly from the server wouldn't it? Still Direct FTP has other features that make it really helpful.

I recently downloaded Navicat lite for use with python/django (since phpmyadmin is written in PHP and even in django you sometimes need to go into the database). I'm trying K-Meleon, a good browser, alternative to Firefox. Of course Firefox is more powerful, but K-Meleon is less resource hungry.

Also, I tried mempad, and I found out a big flaw in it: it does save your notes "automatically". BUT, if somehow the application is terminated unexpectedly, or your power has been cut, you'll lose everything. You need to properly close the application for the notes to be saved.
That's why I still prefer Microsoft OneNote for that, and that's a pitty, because Mempad seems to be so practical...

running osx on vm ware is not so hard

and most of the features of osx run fine under VmWare.

all you need is a pc which has at least sse2 but sse3 is preferable

if its sse2 then then you need to patch an image of an intel version of OS X

you then install it under free bsd (because osx is based on bsd)

you can even share the net with the guest os

it runs a little slower than full speed and power pc apps run super slow

videos work alright but they skip a bit

sound is a bit dodgy

and resolution would be 1024x768

Windows: Windows 7 (x64 if possible)
- Windows Application Development, 3D rendering, gaming
Mac: OSX Snow Leopard
- For GFX Design, or anything multimedia related
Linux: Slackware
- Opensource *NIX Development, Free Softwares, FREE

I recommend Ubuntu Linux (the latest version is 10.04 and it can be downloaded from http://www.ubuntu.com)

* less security problems than windows (almost none)
* free (as in free beer and as in free speech)
* huge software repositories so you can install almost anything with just a few clicks
* fully customizable
* nice community support (the forums are awesome!)
* comes with almost anything you need (about 30 minutes to install Ubuntu + any other piece of software you need) - in windows xp it took me 10 hours

Those are my suggestions. Good luck! Laughing

I am trying out Internet Explorer 9. it's loads better than IE's previous versions, but it still doesn't stand up to the mark of Google Chrome or Safari. The upper bar occupies the least possible space, and that's much better than the previous versions. Also, it's quicker, but some features are still absent. It's looks aren't that good, neither is the option of searching as well as navigating. instead of combining both, it actually confuses both the elements of browsing.

According to me, chrome is by far the best browser, and Safari and Mozilla follow suit. Razz Shocked

Accidentally downloaded and installed Adobe Reader for reading pdf files.

I had stopped using the Crapware Bloatware Adobe Reader more than a year back, but had to format and reinstall the computer.

Instead of getting Foxit or Sumatra pdf reders like I usually do, ended up onstalling Adobe Reader to see if they had changed their evil ways after all these years of complaints.

But NO, they are still Bloatware (even more than earlier) and wastes system resources in just simply opning a simple pdf file.

And search: How difiicult is it to have a simple, fast search/find function !? It took ages to find a particular phrase in an eBook. The same thing was done by FoxIt reader is less than 1/3rd the time.

Shame on you Adobe Reader.

Also, ask my permission before wasting my limited bandwidth to dowload updates to ur crapware :/

I had some issues with trying to create Trusted Sites in IE8 (I can't upgrade to IE9 as I'm still on Windows XP). It just did not want to take. Then decided to delete IE8 completely and then discovered that MS Expression Web actually can only really work with IE. It also contained proxy settings of my ISP. So eventually had to re-upload IE8. Then tried the Trusted Sites setting again, and no dice. IE just does not want me to get those sites that I have identified as trusted sites to be loaded without that pink warning address bar. Thanks for the heads up. I was on 9.0 and unaware of an update. But it's so dead easy. Just go into About Firefox, and it just does everything automatically. No need to log out. It first closes all the windows automatically, and then it opens them automatically too at the end of the update. Wonder what the update was about? Shocked Laughing

And updated uTorrent to 3.2 Beta 27026.

µTorrent is a small and incredibly popular BitTorrent client.

Micro-Sized Yet Feature Filled

Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

Resource-Friendly

µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 1 MB in size.

Skinnable and Localized

Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available, and creating your own is very simple. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn't available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

Actively Developed and Improved

The developer puts in a lot of time working on features and making things more user-friendly. Releases only come out when they're ready, with no schedule pressures, so the few bugs that appear are quickly addressed and fixed.

- Defragmentation speed improved by up to 30%.
- Optimized free space algorithms.
- Re-architected scheduling manager.
- Improved the fragmentation calculation during Defragmentation.

Most defrag tools only allow you to defrag an entire drive. Defraggler lets you specify one or more files, folders, or the whole drive to defragment.

When Defraggler reads or writes a file, it uses the exact same techniques that Windows uses. Using Defraggler is just as safe for your files as using Windows.

At a glance, you can see how fragmented your hard drive is. Defraggler's drive map shows you blocks that are empty, not fragmented, or needing defragmentation.

Give your hard drive a quick touch-up with Quick Defrag
Organizes empty disk space to further prevent fragmentation
Defragment while you sleep - and wake up with a faster PC. Set Defraggler to run daily, weekly or monthly
Full Windows OS and Multi-lingual support

Just downloaded and updated the Foxit Reader to v5.3.1.0606.

Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer, with incredible small size, breezing-fast launch speed and rich feature set. Its core function is compatible with PDF Standard 1.7.

Incredibly small: The download size of Foxit Reader is just a fraction of Acrobat Reader 20 M size.
Breezing-fast: When you run Foxit Reader, it launches instantly without any delay. You are not forced to view an annoying splash window displaying company logo, author names, etc.
Annotation tool: Have you ever wished to annotate (or comment on) a PDF document when you are reading it? Foxit Reader allows you to draw graphics, highlight text, type text and make notes on a PDF document and then print out or save the annotated document.
Text converter: You may convert the whole PDF document into a simple text file.
High security and privacy: Foxit Reader highly respects the security and privacy of users and will never connect to the Internet without users' permission. While other PDF readers often silently connect to the Internet in the background. Foxit PDF Reader does not contain any spyware.

Haha! For the first time FileZilla. Been resisting it for years. I'm too impatient to learn all of the bells and whistles, but the sailing was incredibly smooth. Put my info on top of the FileZilla page. It instantly opened the remote Website. Then dragged files from one side to the other, in this case from the remote site to my hard disk. That WAS fun!

It's really simple interface probably better than most FTP clients I've used anyway. I used SmartFTP for years until they basically said yeah you'll have to pay for it now. No way was it as reliable or easy to use.

Just recently, I downloaded FileZilla. Not a whopper of a surprise or anything but I needed a new install of it (on my Windows partition). That program still meets its merit for an install. I hope it stays maintained and updated for as long as it is needed. Sometimes open source projects fall to the side and do not get noticed until they have been unmaintained for quite some time and then sometimes it is too late for them.

I downloaded the AutoHotkey_L v1.1.08.01.

AutoHotkey_L is a fork of AutoHotkey which adds a long list of new features and fixes some bugs. Anything that can be done with AutoHotkey can also be done with AutoHotkey_L. Scripts written for AutoHotkey will also run on AutoHotkey_L, with some exceptions (see Warning below).

Commonly-used features include:

#if expression allows context-sensitive hotkeys to be activated based on whether an expression is true or false.
Unicode and x64 support for greater portability; Unicode is a must-have for international users.
COM and ActiveX support, allowing scripts to access many other automation technologies.
Built-in array support simplifies dealing with lists of values and other data structures.
Support for icons in menus and numerous enhancements to the Gui commands.
New built-in variables, functions and other enhancements; read more.

Many more optional features are aimed at experienced users:

New control flow statements and language capabilities such as Loop..Until, named loops and variadic functions.
Optional warnings, #Include <Lib> and the local function library are especially useful for larger projects.
Step through code line by line, inspect variables and more, with interactive debugging features.
Objects can be used as simple data containers, or behaviour can be customized by scripts.
Try..Catch and Throw for structured exception handling.

The thread has been open for quite some time now anyways, so perhaps one day someone can re-create something similar so the software will be more up to date.
