404 error

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I am currently trying to install WordPress, and I keep getting a 404 not found error. I set up a MySQL and what not, but for some reason the install is not working. Do you have any ideas or tips to help get me started? Thanks!

*Note* I did read the readme and the install guide, but I keep getting this error. Thanks again for any info.

You could have just started a new thread. Anyway...

404 means a file is missing. You probably aren't uploading all your files. This might be helpful: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions

Peace.

Well I put them on my website using FTP. I can see them on there. It's really confusing. I don't think me using Firefox would be a problem, but perhaps Ad Block Plus? I guess I will try to upload them again. Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks for changing this to my own topic. I still haven't figured out what I did, but I requested an account reset so that I start over from scratch. I think I might have deleted something important when I was trying to take my old site down.

Okay hopefully it'll work. Post back when you've tried again. By the way, back up anything important.

Peace.

I don't think you can do something that might hurt your account. Are you sure you type the links right and stuff? Remember case sensitive. And make sure your homepage is index.php/.html/whatever.

Well yeah I made sure I put the address in my browser correctly. I had a lot of problems when I installed a Wiki page before. I tried putting the WordPress files in the root folder and also another folder called WordPress, and both times it didn't work. I am now wondering if there is something with my domain...Because I purchased a .com, but then again I tried the .com and the .frih, and neither worked. Maybe I will go cry in the corner Question lol Cool

Well instead of adding a new post, I will just edit this one. My account was reset, and I uploaded my WordPress folder. I then put the address in, and it says the file doesn't exist. Any help would be amazing. Thanks a lot.
