Georgia asking US for armaments again

Nick2008
Here he goes again, regardless of all the protests and opposition he once again wants weapons.

Quote:

The Georgian government is planning various provocative actions on the country’s border with South Ossetia, marking the anniversary of the August 2008 events, says Grigory Karasin from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

A "Peaceful" march through South Ossetia by Georgia? Really? Why?

Quote:

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has been pushing for arms from the US to head off an alleged Russian invasion. Jonathan Steele, a columnist from The Guardian in London, argues that Russia has no reason to invade.

Here's the interview: http://russiatoday.ru/Politics/2009-07-22/-To-say-Russia-plans-invasion-of-Georgia-absurd-.html

Do you think Saakashvili is going to once again invade South Ossetia? Do you think the US will actually arm him again?

I personally believe that he won't invade South Ossetia and that the US is smarter and learned it's lesson from last year about arming a leader who went crazy. I doubt the US would give him weapons again.

I looked at another news source, as I could not get the .ru web pages up. I checked up on the link below:

This story is slightly different in that the withdrawal of Russian troops seems to have to do with the peace negotiations the EU are trying to broker between the parties. The Russian troops withdrawal seem to be part of the deal. Georgia does not want the deal to go through, and according to the Russians are deliberately creating acts of terrorism to ensure that the deal falls through.

I have to agree though. I can't see the US getting involved in this. Maybe for once the EU can take care of this.

This article is outdated, it's from October 2008. The EU actions and withdrawal of Russian troops are completed.

It is right now that Saakashvili is asking the US for more armaments. Like I said, I highly doubt the US will arm him again after what happened a year ago.

The whole thing looks extremely shady. If they were not there trying to cause some kind of problem...why waste the money to move troops there in the first place? Very few organizations will put out that kind of expenditure without the expectation of some kind of ROI (return on investment).
