Linkbacks without google penalty

I get a lot of articles and blogs written about my site. With our marketing we always highlight them and link back to the article. Google ignores direct reciprocal links so we are left to type the url but not link it. It's not good usability for our users.

Is there anything we can do? Set it up to redirect or something?

You shouldn't link back to the site to begin with? I mean, how does it benefit your content/users? Link to relevant websites, not ones that link to you. That way, it's a big circle, in which everybody wins.

Link back to the site so the user can see the article and check out the site.
