firefox, because it is the best duh you can get tons of different extensions that do lots of different things, i have one extension that allows me to highlight stuff and then it reads it to me, and another that allows me to write stuff in codes like "sversbk ehyrf" in rot 13 or ..-. .. .-. . ..-. --- -..- .-. ..- .-.. . ... in morse code. It is also the most secure by far this
http://secunia.com/product/4227/ is the security of Firefox, this http://secunia.com/product/11/ is the security rating of Internet Explorer. See the difference?

I think Microsoft Internet Explorer is one of the worst browsers... I hate it... It's a stupid and unnecessary program ! It always comes with very big sizes (and also sevice packs...) But some people still like it ! Nice !

I usually use Mozilla Firefox... I think it easy and secure... Opera and Netscape are very nice like Firefox, too... But I like Firefox much more.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't like Windows Media Player: Microsoft supports only own video and audio formats... Evil or Very Mad Of course with a lot of errors ! I use VLC Media Player (Video Lan). It has great feauters and supports most of video and audio formats. Espacially, streaming media with VLC is great !

I was always a fan of IE, then Mozilla came out and changed my whole mindset on web browsing. It is more streamlined and has featured that make sense and are easy to use.

Then Firefox came out and made me realize that, yes, Mozilla was wonderful, it is a tad too bulky for my browing needs. Besides, Firefox is on the same engine as Mozilla, so in the end all is well.

It depends on what kind of site you take the statistics from. If it is something like a tech guru site (people who know what they are talking about) IE might have less than 50%, but on mainstream sites it usually hovers around 88-95%.

This is from CNET:

OneStat.com, an Amsterdam, Netherlands-based provider of Web traffic measurement services, said that according to numbers gleaned from 2 million Web surfers around the world, the Mozilla Foundation's new Firefox releases appear to be cutting into Microsoft's still commanding lead in the browser market.
...
OneStat's statistics, based on the Web surfers' activity in 100 countries, showed that IE's market share slipped to 88.9 percent in the third week of November, down 5 percentage points from its share in May.

What do you mean by usage levels?

I don't think that will not be allowed unless you are collecting personal data from the forum members.

Just ask the site admin or mod!

I like to use Internet Explorer with With SP2 and all the Update Patches. Firstly the advantage of this is that I can complete protect my explorer, from hacks (i think! Or, you could just read this thread to get a general idea of the percentages. Seriously, it's not that big of a deal. We definitely don't need any more threads or polls on the subject when we already have one.

Of course it depends what you are doing in your browser at the moment you take the measurement. For example, I usually have 20 or so tabs open, at this moment I have over 200 unread RSS feed messages and near 10,000 read ones, some of which opera stores in memory for fast access. Not to mention all my mail, plus some IRC rooms that have been opened for a few days. (Yes, opera can do all the natively, but that's not the point.) As of now, it's using 111,744 K memory, which is a lot, but can be expected.

I use Firefox because it is good and fast. Internet Explorer is just crap that sucks spyware, trojans and etc. When I used Windows I used Avant Browser, which is better client from IE from Mozilla. I use firefox. I really like it. I get hardly any popups, and its pretty fast. I have to use IE sometimes though, cause sometire firefox jsut cant do the things IE can. some sites are bulit specdially for IE, so thats the only reason i keep IE on there. LOVE the ctl t stuff as well. I like that i can do that instead of losing my page or starting a new window. THe only problem i have with firefox is that when it pops up that screen asking for your opinon and i hit cancel it malfuntions and shuts everythoing out.

Firefox all the way!! Been using it exclusively since last september (2004). Tried using Avant for about a month prior to switching to FF, was kinda nice until I realized it was pretty much vulnerable to most, if not all, IE security flaws since it's basically an "IE-skin" with lot of bells and whistles. Anyways, Firefox has been plenty good to me and hasn't let me down so far, but it's not entirely without faults either.

Won't touch IE again because (1)Bad history of security problems, (2)Crappy MS policies and practices that lead to all the security holes while they had the browser monopoly, and their willingness to do it again if given the opportuny (3)Microsoft dominance of the browser market, among other things, needs to end.... permanently. Even if IE7 is the best thing to come out and is very secure, it's probably best to stay away from it, otherwise history will just repeat itself.

That's what we've been trying to do. This should be the only one that isn't locked, if we haven't skipped one by, which is very possible. So I guess you could easily say that this is the official one. If you see any others that are open, let a mod know and they'll close them up.

I use IE, Firefox, and Slimbrowser. I like firefox mostly because it's fast and reliable and I use Slimbrowser for the tabbed browsing. I hurd Firefox has tabbed browsing, but I could never figure it out so I'm not sure and if anyone can tell me how to do it, it would be greatly appreciated.
jczer68
You can control-click a link to open the link in a new tab. (shift clicking for new window). Or you can right click the link and select "open in new tab" from the context menu. Or you can middle click the link. Or you can rightclick on the toolbar, customize it and add the new tab/new window buttons to the toolbar. Or you can drag a link to the empty space on the tab bar (not sure if an extension is required for this). There is no shortage of ways in which you can access and launch new tabs in Firefox... via options and extensions in addition to what I've already mentioned. Extensions that can help you out include various mouse gesturing extensions, SuperDragAndGo, TabMix, and many others.

Most of the time I use FireFox. It's one of the fastest and safest browsers.
But as webmaster, you have to realise that there are people out there who are still using IE or another browser, like Opera. And because most of the browsers don't display everything in the same way, I'm sometimes forced to use IE and Opera to see how my site looks.

1. doesnt use activeX which is often exploited by hackers and viruses to gain access to ur computer

I use Firefox, very nice, very convenient especially the use of extensions, hope they can fix the memory issues though
Antoine_935
I use Firefox, because I'm under linux.
but, with the extensions, I think Firefox is better than other browsers like Maxthon.
I use some cool extensions, like sessionsaver, which allows you to conserv opened pages, even if you close the browser.
I use adblock too, which blocks any unwanted content.

I used Maxthon, firefox and now am using Opera.

These dayz Opera seems just right for me.Its fast lite and quick

I agree! Very Happy

I mostly use Opera (registered version) - it's a fantastic browser, but sometimes I use Firefox. The nice thing about Firefox is that it's got a lot of plugins - for the weather, to play MP3's while you surf, and so on. But Opera is small, clean, and powerful - I love it!

The latest version has voice commands now, which is great too. I reckon telling your browser to go back or open a new window is cool - much better than keypresses or clicking with the mouse!

On the rare occassion when I'm forced to use IE, I generally use Maxthon instead. Recently I discovered Deepnet Explorer, which has tabs like Maxthon, but also has an RSS reader and P2P Client built in. But Maxthon, like Firefox, has lot's of nice plugins!

Put Maxthon in your list!

I use Firefox with some extensions.

Firefox is your best bet on a browser. Not only is it much more efficient-you get basically no frills when you download it and you add features if you want them-but it's much more secure than Internet Explorer. It's also much faster. Opera is not as desirable because it's much less compatible with websites in general than Firefox, but it is speedier.

Firefox is much better than IE 6 currently. It lets you view pages more quickly and safely.

The best feature I like about Mozilla Firefox is the tabbed browsing. It reduces the number of windows loaded on your system taskbar, by compiling a number of pages into a window. I heard that IE 7 is going to have that feature too... Anyway, Firefox 1.5 beta is coming out soon... But i won't use it until the full version is released.

Sometimes I use internet explorer because some sites only work on IE and firefox doesn't have nothing to identify it as being IE, and I guess opera does it... so I used to use opera too... but IE sucks!!! for sure!! Ali,it is more hype than solid reasons. Most of the people here havent even tried any thing other then just Firefox and IE.

Opera was always the smartest browser.Even with extensions firefox cant provide some vital features namely fitting pages to screenwidth, zooming of pages, voice browsing, reading out pages in high quality voices from ibm etc.
And too many extensions complicates things. They make the interface a total mess to work with.FF becmoes slower and clumsier.

Internet explorer and its modifications has big sercurity holes, they are widely used so they are the main target for hackers and viruses.

I think that Opera is the best browser out there, and that the only possible alternative would be Firefox. But in order to have Firefox work almost as well as Opera, you will have to work heavily on its configuration. And Opera is still quicker, hence "the best".
Maybe the only problem is that you have to use it with a modern PC or it will work at a "not best" speed.

I used IE for years, as it was the best option at the time, with so many pages using code that only worked in IE, and with Netscape/Mozilla being large programs that were very much resource hogs. I was extremely reluctant to try anything new, but I gave Firebird 0.7 a shot (previous name for Firefox during development) Since then I've been a Firefox user. I've never used Opera before, because it had ads, but maybe since it is now ad-free I will give it a go, but I'm pretty sure Firefox will stay as my main browser.

I use FF about 95% of the time and IE the other 5% of the time because some sites are not really Firefox Compatible so I use Internet Explorer.

Firefox is faster, has a built in pop-up blocker, you can browse in Tabs (several web pages inside one browser?) and has a much better download system then Microsoft's 'Internet Explorer'; you can pause, restart, manage and organize all your downloads in a nifty little Downloads window. Firefox also allows you to download embeded objects on a page like Flash Files
decayed.cell
Nothing beats Opera! It's the fastest browser, had features like tabbed browsing way before Firefox, has a built in mIRC function, mouse gestures - list goes on. Oh and you can also continue browsing from your last session, which can't be found in IE, Firefox or anything else!

I use Firefox. Good standards support, tabbed browsing, security, numerous useful features, and nice architecture.

I've tried Opera, but the interface just isn't all that great. Even now that it no longer has that annoying banner ad, I still don't think I'll be switching. Plus it lacks some nice features which Firefox has like colour coded source viewing and the ability to view background images from the right-click context menu.

Internet Explorer...well it just pales in comparison to the features and production speed which the Mozilla Foundation provides for Firefox. Even with IE7, I'm sure the web standard support and feature list will be poor compared to Firefox.

Woo open source!

I am using Opera for more than 3 years when the FF doesn't exist.

Opera is the only browser made from the scratch.
All other use mosaic codes.

Opera support page zooming which is absent in FF.

There is a lot more useful features in Opera which are absent in FF.

And best of all it is FREE.

i use opera, its a little bit faster as firefox and it has a great add on blocker. IE just sux. and ie 7 will be a copy from firefox and opera. firefox is goodbut opera is better. And youre stupid if you use ie.
ROWDY!
I offen use IE 6 and Opera. And also sometimes Firefox. I support IE even though it has many security holes, I use it along with addons like "spoofstick", "googl toolbar" (which is good for filling out forms), and the "trustwatch" toolbar. I also like to keep my IE6 very up-to-date! I use Opera mainly because it has tabed browsing - very useful.

Firefox is the best.

Pop-up free and also tabbed page for browsing.

Sure you can! By changing it`s individual behaviour and the best is: By using the flashGot plugin you can embed your favorite download manager as well. Dancing

FF is the best browser for surfing I think, and you can change it`s open source code to your own wishes. Applause

I usually switch between Firefox & IE. I probably use IE more just beacuse the was the one i started with then I discovered firefox. When my mac computer finaly comes in I will probably start to use firefox the most. Since I think the safri is evil or it just doesn't like me.

I love firefox because it has soo many extensions and themes, I like the tabbed browsing, the bookmarks in one whole seperator, and best of all, it has better security and is faster. I also use Netscape but it doesn't have as many extensions
justinrs32
I think Firefox, IE, Netscape and Opera are all very good, nicely put together browsers. I like to use my own browser though Smile lol
pjv
Firefox is still the best! I tried using Opera before but I think Firefox still outdone Opera. It's much faster and leaner. IE? don't think about it, your wasting your time waiting for the page to load. Security on IE? yes, you can use it if you want to be bombarded with popups of ads, spywares and all the junk stuffs on the net.
Delta
My favorite would have to be FireFox. FireFox does not have popops, and instead of having multiple windoes, you use tabs, which saves time looking at websites. I also think the FireFox is easier to use than IE.

Mostly Firefox, sometimes I use Avant Browser too Smile

U may use any broser but choose the one which give u the max speed
U may also look for browsers with multiple facility
namely
download management
mail delivery
bookmark handling is easier

apart from these u may go for the one which support massengers integration
if u need the list of popular browsers u may contact me or go for searching

I was contented with Internet Explorer 6 sp2. The adware, spyware and malicious cookies are always at the neck of IE. That's the main problem. Well, my world literally changed when I switched to Mozilla. Go spread the word, Mozilla Firefox rules! Most secured ever!
Cano
Oh I see I live in stone age! I'm using IE because I have never mobilised ;D to change it. I have google Pop-up blocker and it works. The main reason for which i haven't changed my browser is that Google Bar doesn't works on other browsers. I used Netscape for a while but it hasn't Polish version Sad. Has Firefoks as good finder as Google bar? If yes I will start to use it.

Firefox all the way! I actually sometimes use Konqueror as well as I use Linux. Now, I saw someone up there say that IE is secure??? Are you crazy? Ever heard of spyware? adware? viruses? You know where they come from? IE, you know why? It's because IE is directly integrated into Windows, things like ActiveX allow random people to access ANYTHING on your harddrive, which is the most unsecure thing possible. This is why I use firefox, there is very little spyware, popups, no ActiveX, while it still has support for almost ANY site out there. If anyone wants to argue this with me, I'll accept the challenge Razz

I use firefox ... its better than IE

1.Firefox does not natively support ActiveX, a mechanism many spyware
and adware programs use to infect a browser.

2.Firefox is not used by as many people as Internet Explorer, thus
many spyware and adware authors have not targeted this browser.

3.As Firefox is open-source, it seems (as of now) that security holes
are being patched faster. As of this writing, several known Internet
Explorer security holes still exist that have not yet been patched.

Firefox,

I heart that new Opera is good browser too.

Mozilla FireFox, of course. I use Internet Explorer on my other computer, though.

Safari rocks. It's fast as hell and it renders webpages perfect, and it's pretty secure too.

Totally agree. Safari is the best browser on the Mac. Firefox doesn't work with my two-fingered scrolling, I don't want to bother with about:config. Tried it, didn't work. Oh, well.

Besides, I just like the look of Safari, and I also echo that it renders pages good. Go Safari!

Too bad it's a Mac only application, though. I use Firefox when I have to work with Windows computers... Sad Which, luckily, isn't everyday.

Firefox rocks, although now as Opera removed the advertisings became more attractive.
But IE is not possible to remove completely as some secure sites require active x or just plain IE, other than that I like with IE that you can just go to the Temporary Internet Folders and copy all the pictures you have seen (particulary good when you are surfing comic sites Very Happy ).

So Firefox most of the time and IE sometimes.
khairulsyahir
I gotta admit it. Since I found Firefox (that was since it's called Firebird), I've left IE all alone in my PC. Never used IE again, except for sites that require them (duh).

Firefox, the browser to go!
khairulsyahir
I think the major reason why almost 90% of Internet users use IE for browsing the web is simply because they don't know there's a lot of better alternatives! Perhaps because IE comes installed with Windows and it does its work (but not that well). Really, those IE-users needs to be told. (No offence here. If you choose to use IE yourself, this post doesn't refer to you Very Happy )
GDG
Hey, well of course i use firefox, i mean once i got my hands on it i just couldn't stopusing it. I'm also currently using Opera because firefox had some problems with the following site, as it would not load the flash thing, it only leaves a big black space:

www.lineage2.com

So if anyoen knows how to fix that please can you PM me, thanks a lot.
Other than that it works best so far, especially since they upgraded to 1.5 version. I can proudly say that its much faster and im gonna use the Firetune thing that one of the posters left here, thanks to him as well!!!

So this is to all you IE users, who didn't choose from free will, please try firefox and stick with. less viruses, less hacks, less hassle!!! FOR SURE.

I have tested IE, FF and Opera on these four sites:
1. http://www.miniclip.com/robotrage.htm
2. http://www.miniclip.com/snowballwarfare/snowballwarfare.php
3. http://www.paulsimon.com/index_news_oldfriends.html
4. http://www.kurshtml.boo.pl/style/filtry.html

Results:
1.
IE: Everything goes correctly, but I can't see adress of this site. IE doesn't show adresses of popup windows. And If you haven't Macromedia Shockwave you will not see anything and IE will not tell you why. And sometimes can't open popups at all. You must restart whole explorer.exe to make it run properly.
FF: I don't know why but sometimes it loads and sometimes it doesn't (probably it's not fault of the browser). It's good to clear cookies, cashe (it's much easier than in IE) and it will go. You will see adress of the server. If you haven't Shockwave FF will download it for you.
Opera: I can't run it because it is in popup. Maybe it;s impossible and maybe I am stupid Razz. But browser must be easy to use. When you start it from a direct adress it will run, but 3D graphics weren't running properly. I have also sometimes errors an Opera shuts down.
2.
IE: If you have shockwave (you must download it manually as I wrote earlier) everythink should be OK.
FF: It loads, but when it will be about to start you may see (I see it always :/) alert which will tell you that there was error in shockwave and it can't run. I installed shockwave many times and error always occures.
Opera: When I opened it on IE it was running normally but when I open it on Opera it runs so slowly that I can't play it.
3.
IE: Site runs properly.
FF: You can't see the whole text - you can't scroll it anyway!
Opera: You can scroll text, but you will see scrolling images too.
4.
IE: All effects are visible.
FF: FF doesn't allow these effects.
Opera: Opera doesn't allow these effects (but it allows some other).

IE passed all tests Razz. But it's slow, not secure and main version hasn't any plugins and skins. FF looks nice and clear, but it has some weaknesess. Opera is too complicated for me and I don't know how to open sites (and popup windows) in new windows. But it have some fine options like reading and it remembers and opens sites you have visited in one window (it is sometimes inconvenient). I think that FF is faster.

@Cano
Your tests are good, and almost the same happened to me.
That is why I sometimes use IE when opera didn't show some sites clearly. Also some sites with webfont technology ( the technology used for making local language sites, in which no fond download is necessory to view them) will not work on Opera or in FF but only work on IE. That time I use IE and many times there is no problem with opera for me. And I cant live without the Tabbed feature. Latest IE's tabbed feature is pathetic and not so useful for advanced users.
FF's tabbed feature too is not at all good. Many people even didnot use that feature in FF! FF is populer because of lack of functionalities in GUI.

Have you ever realised the author of this page is a HUGE "Internet Explorer"-fan. The last two points realy aren't correct:
  • Firefox fully support W3C Standards
The source this person provides, clearly shows that FireFox (FF) (1.0 AND 1.5) has better support for almost every W3C-standard then Internet Explorer (IE). OK, it's not full support, but still is better then IE. Where the author says IE has 87% of support on the most important standard (HTML 4.1), FF has in both versions more support on this standard! (93% & 94%). The source he provided shows that FF and Opera are more or less equals on all terains, but leaving IE way behind them.
  • Firefox works with every Web Page
That's to say: FF works with every Standard-compliant Web Page. During the years, Microsoft has kind of developed their own web-standards. IE thus supports a lot of uncommon web-features. When FF tries to follow the W3C-standards, it's clear they won't follow the Microsoft-standards. That's the source of the incompatibility. So it's not FF being incompatible, but IE leaving the path of common standards!
So it's not FF's fault he can't display 15% of the pages, but it's Microsofts fault!
But as IE is still the most-used webbrowser, webdevelopers need to make sure their website is perfectly viewable in IE, or they might loose a lot of visitors. But be sure, it's not difficult to make a non-IE-compliant website.

Ofcourse, some of the stuff the author says is true. Have you ever seen software without bugs? Another note to make: FF can also be run on Linux and Mac. To bad for IE, they are stuck to Windows :p

btw. I'm a FireFox-user

PS This post was not made to offend someone. Just a note to show that the authors' arguments aren't realy correct on some points. They needed a little more nuancation...

ok, so everybody loves Firefox and hates IE. i'm not gonna say that IE is great and FF sucks cuz i think the opposite exactly but i'm gonna defend IE a little bit:

alright...

(1) Firefox and any other browser, aside from Internet Explorer (IE) or Netscape, are security risks in ways you don't know.

(2) Yes I hate microsoft too, but there isn't much choice out there

(3) IE is buggy, and has flaws yes, but there is a lot of technical support and money behind it.

(4) IE and all MS products get hacked more, not because they are worse than other products, or companies, but because of the MASSIVE EXPOSURE they have, so there are millions more chances to attack something than a few thousand, or even hundreds of thousands.

(5) So yes the other products are "ok" and not "terrible" but since their exposure
is less, so is the discovery of flaws, and as it will take longer, it will allow you
less security for a longer period of time, then what MS or Netscape will be.

So please consider this when you are talking about using other browsers, or
other progams.

(6) IF YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING IMPORTANT ON YOUR COMPUTER THAT YOU
ARE BROWSING, OR PLAYING FROM, THEN THIS DOESN'T MATTER! ! ! !

Now the trick is "what is important to you?"

Pictures, Homework, Music, Games, OnLine Banking, work related files
etc..etc...

http://www.maxthon.com/

it's a nice browser, based on IE engine but with a different interface that includes tabs, mouse gestures and other features that you can see on their site.
I used it for a while but then formatted my PC and didn't download it afterwards since it lagged and closed by itself regularly but that's just on my PC.
i'm currently very happy with my firefox, been using it for more then a year and recently downloaded opera but i'm still discovering it, it's nice though.
JackLaidlaw
Firefox is in my opinion the best browser about. I think they should take I.E out of any future windows operating system and strike a deal with mozilla to put it in coz its by far the best
krazycapital
Firefox. I loved tab browsing (13 tabs open now), and IE just doesn't have the features and doesn't look as good.
zorindart
It's quite curious that 64% of voters have choosed Firefox. I rule some websites and in ALL of them, according to the stats, most people keep on using IE.
Maybe it's because this is a site focused on web building and people here is more aware of the weakness of IE.
In some of my sites I put an advertise encouraging people to use Firefox. (MY good action of the day)
bogden
i've been using FF when it was still mozilla. whats cool though is that the percent of FF users is about to inch out over IE as more popular Smile

Both Firefox and Internet Explorer have their advantages

You can't display some floating images in Internet Explorer - Check out the floating images you can get for your website at Too Cool For Internet Explorer - http://www.w3junkies.com/toocool/.

However, some websites have certain guestbooks and other misc. items that can only be displayed in Internet Explorer. This is easily conquered by Firefox's "Open in IE tab" option.

I choose Firefox. Live On!

Hi there,

I'm mostly using Firefox and only when I'm forced to it do I use ie, as Firefox still don't support all asp scripts and other other ms realiated scripts.

So I'll hail the Mozilla team for their still hard working to keep it in possition.

Cheers!

firefox is amazing.

w/ all the extensions you can get.
(-session saver -foxytunes -amazing media browser) being my favorite, its a wonder anybody still uses Internet Explorer!

although IE 7 is suppost to be competitive.

i am a firefox user here but might try and get the opera explorer and give it a try
Ironz
My Favorite is Firefox 1.5.

But i'm having problems with firefox's memory usage, it sometime causes my computer to stop responding or greatly lag.

i recently downloaded opera (after it became free Very Happy ) and noticed the difference between them.

Firefox is using around 80Mb of memory while Opera is only using 10Mb.

Is this happening with everybody?
Is there a way to reduce the memory firefox is using?

I've tried a lot of things but they just don't seem to work.

Gotta be firefox, it beats the hell out of whatever else comes close. Some people are just afraid of change, is all.

I use Firefox and IE

Firefox because is the most secure browser but also is more slow Crying or Very sad , the 2open in new tab" is very useful. The only prob is that is more slow than IE. Recomended for websites that u don't trust,...

IE it's faster, but very unsecure, very easy for a website that contains maliciosus code (it hapenned to me Crying or Very sad Mad ), to run on your system an MS-DOS that crashed my pc i was using anti-viruses updated Rolling Eyes (i was used panda internet security 2005) . Only for websites u trust...

I use FireFox along with a browser a friend created called Mandigo Duel-page.
Mandigo lets you have multiple websites opened in 1 window, or you can open multiple windows and tabs. FireFox I think is the best browser there is. Not only is firefox itself usefull, You can get programs for it that allow you to have things such as your own scripts for websites.
PADRE[P.S.]
I use Firefox browser now, earlier i used mozilla suite, begining from version 1.0

I use Mozilal Firefox, the newest version, and i love it.

I use Adblock extension with that and its definatly the ebst browser around in my opinion, although i look forward to IE 7.0.

i definitly use firefox i would never use anything else, with its great customising abilities is works how I want not how microsoft want and it is much faster than internet explorer and much safer. although i believe opera is the safest of internet explorer firefox and opera. any, everyone should switch to firefox now, you will wish you had done it sooner.

DeerPark Alpha 2 is a very old version of Firefox - this was the pre-beta release of Firefox 1.5

If you update to Firefox 1.5, you are using the same software, only it's feature-complete (including the excellent automatic update function). Since it was a pre-beta release, it's likely to have some bugs and security issues. I've been a long-time user of Firefox, and I was using DeerPark Alpha 1 and 2, Firefox 1.5 Beta, Firefox 1.5 RC1/2/3, Firefox 1.5 and I'm now using Firefox 1.5.0.1 - I strongly urge you to update to the most recent software. Trust me, you will notice the improvements!

Its really my favorite browser i like the popup stopping etc. It just works nice. Also i like working with those tabs its just Genius. With internet explorer i have a lot of windows open and its not very handy to switch between pages this way but with the tabs it goes very fast. But sometimes if i have to work with IRC channels and i click an IRC link i cant paste into my irc program. Only in this case i have to use Internet explorer, mostly these sites are full with adds. With the service pack 2 microsoft added a popup blocker but it blocks a bit to much most of the time. Sometimes you need a popup to let the the site function.

olaf
First of all i use Opera , best utility and functionality combined, and remembers where i left off :p , i also use Firefox when i need to check something quick (tho im not satisfied with it's memory requierments way to much for way to little ) firefox works nice till u load plugins on it then it's more slugish then anything else , IE is a virus magnet and is blocked on my pc via Firewall Wink but no matter what browser u use Firewall&AV is a must:)

I use firefox as much as possible, since I renders more code correctly (CSS 2.0 and even some CSS 1.1 is ignored or rendered incorrectly in IE). I would use it exclusively, but when one builds websites for others, they must be viewable by everyone, thus need testing. I test with IE, Firefox, and Opera.
kiranaghor
On my PC I use Opera n Firefox.

firefox is so buggy, its not even funny. people just like it because it looks nice. my last website, i had to redo three times because firefox didn't support some feature i had on it. if their gonna be so far behind, why even bother distributing it? internet explorer has been around for ages, its alot more stable then firefox, and it can see everyting. and i hate the way firefox messes up what your trying to type in sometimes. whats the whole point of that feature? if i had to use another browser than IE, i would use anything other than firefox.
Petee
I always use Firefox, except on sites that require IE. Firefox just plain rules, in my opinion. There are so many different skins/themes for it, and tons of extensions too. I've got a weather extension that I really like. The download manager is pretty cool too. With certain download sites, you can pause what you're downloading and resume it later. I assume that some other browsers can do that too, but I havn't tried any others.
wizdrag
I mostly use Firefox, with IE as a backup if the site demands it. The extensions make it really customizable, and the ability to selectively allow or disallow cookies and javascript is great. I started using it because I did not like ActiveX running with all of the security bugs out there attacking it.

I started using firefox because of the tabs, but now since IE came out with tabs I don't know which one I will use...? Probably firefox because it's already installed.
4ndY
I use Firefox with much extension, but I tried IE and Opera.
My opinion:
First IE is crap - some shells (like Avant browser), fix it a little.
Opera is the best browser - fast, satble, nice_looking, now free, ...
I was using Opera for a long time (about 2 years), but somethings I really missed which i saw in Firefox(BugMeNot Razz ). So i switch to FF, but it has slow starup - to fix it i add Fasterfox extension (it did great job). Opera had nicer skin - so i DL new for FF (Aquatiant). Next: seassion saver (if FF or Win crash - i lost all tabs that were open). Other useful extension:
-FlashGot -> forward my DLs to GetRight
-AdBlock Smile
-Tabbrowser preference
-IE tab (we all know that FF will not even try to show web pages filled with errors - IE will do it Razz)
-PDF download (FF become too slow if it opens Acrobat Reader in it self)
-ColorFul Tabs - u have more then 10 tabs opened in one window - colour it too fast your switching betwen them.
-BugMeNot - how dont know fot this extension - DL it now!
-Web Developer extension - for me Smile
> to configure all that i spent few hours! With Opera i have it on begin (so my heart still belong to Opera Razz )

i've used opera in an internet cafe one time my PC crashed, and i wanna say that I do not liked its feature like firefox does. i'm more of a keyboart shortcut user so i find it comfortable to use firefox more.

In compare to IE, i say that firefox is much faster and easier in accessing sites. i dunno, i just notice the comparison because i have them installed both in my Pc and i use them alternately on some occassions. Plus, firefox opens faster than IE. AND! IE could easily get more virus than Firefox does.

I use Firefox most often because it blocks pop-ups a lot better than any other browsers. Opera is good, but takes up too much CPU process. Opera has a nice feature for if you to auto refresh a page. i.e. watching an ebay auction.

I cast my vote for Opera as that is the 1 I use most often. I also use Firefox a lot, though. IE needs a good slap! It's slow & cumbersome, & I don't trust it not to put sneaky little things on my hard drive. Even with popups blocked, it still allows MS popups - grrrrrrr.

Ever since IE gave me a bad memory (hijacked...-_-), I've been using Firefox. I've used Opera and Netscape before, but I found Firefox to be easier to use, and its installation file isn't big enough to murder someone who wants to try it out on dial-up. The only thing that I'm cheesed about is that the memory used by a single window isn't fun when you get carried away, but other than that, all the extensions that are available for users to download are awesome.

Well, plugins are here to improve FF and i think its really good idea: if u dont want hundred of options and features you'll have fast and low memory cost browser (many features in other overloaded browsers (IEs shells) are rarely used - so they eat RAM).

I use Firefox.. liked it mainly because of tabbed browsing.. second reason is due to security.. most activex dlls supported in IE will not load in Firefox, preventing stuff from being automatically installed on your computer.. sometimes i do use IE (using IETab extension in firefox) for compatibility reasons.. some sites do not appear correctly in Firefox..

overall, Firefox is a great tool every user must have to surf the NET. Abandon Internet Exploder.

If anyone wants to argue this with me, I'll accept the challenge

Why not use firefox for both then?

- It is faster like you said

- Your computer can't be shut down by a website. Altough this was made for Internet Explorer 3.0, Internet Explorer really isn't any more secure now, it has a bug rated Highly Critical that's known since August 14th 2003 and still not fixed, but I just couldn't find any examples exploiting it.

- It has tabbed browsing

- You can't tell me one single feature IE has and firefox hasn't.

I use FireFox. It is such as good program. On the surface it is an easy to use program for enexperienced used. Under the hood there is a lot you can do. There is also Extentions for just about everything so it there is something lacking you can soon fix that. Security is just about perfect, I have not any infection of notice since I started useing it, not every one pop up!

I also have Opera, which is very good to.

Bit confusing really: Because I have two computers. One Apple Mac iBook G4 and one PC. On my PC for streamlined browsing/no history files saved, I use OffByOne. Why don't you make a Firefox extension for blind people! Firefox extensions are made in Javascript and XUL, which is much like HTML, but uses other tag names.
This is what Firefox is about, only providing tools that 90% of the users need in the default package, but allowing easy addition of tools by extensions.

roneytyc wrote:

Not only firefox has alpha and beta versions, most software has.

First, you have developer releases. Those are not meant for the public, as they mostly contain a lot of bugs, and are only meant for developers to work with.
Then you have an alpha version. This is a preview release. It still contains a lot of bugs and sometimes lacks some of the features in the main release, and is not encouraged to use other then for testing purposes, or to get an idea of what the real software is going to be.
Next is a beta version. This is a pre-release, which still contains some bugs but is almost equal to the main release in functionality. If you like to have the newest software as fast as possible, you could download these, but don't be surprised when there is a bug which doesn't allow you to use your favorite feature.
Then, when the developers think all bugs (which block this release), are gone, a release candidate (RC) is made available. If a bug is found here, the bug is fixed, and a new release candidate is made available.
Finally, if no bugs are found here, the RC is released without modification, and this is the real software, as most people are using.
So currently, the two available versions of firefox, are 1.5.0.1, and 2.0a1, which is the main release 1.5.0.1 and the first alpha version of 2.0. Altough more versions are available, these two are the only ones you have any reason to download, if you're not a developer. (One exception: if your computer can only run older versions, which isn't the case I think, but anyway)

I emigrated from MyIE2 (IE inside, like Maxthon and Avant Browser) to Firefox one and a half year ago, and have stayed ever since. Opera tried to seduce me many times when I still used IE, but never succeded. I'm sure Opera is as good as Firefox, but it just wasn't for me.

Firefox is a browser I can call my browser. It is just the way I want it. Not more or less.

I'm surprised to see the poll results. For a year ago, I'm sure Explorer would have had most of the cake.

I used to use Firefox and IE, but had some issues with them. I now use and will always use Avant browser. It keeps everything safe, it has all the bells and whistles (popup blocker, disable scripts, active x, ad blocker, etc.)

Since I have switched I have had not one problem. The pages load fast, and the skins are cool colors.

Have never tried Opera, but probably won't. Happy with what I am using now. Does anyone else use AVANT browser?

ppl, try new Opera 9, its really great.
http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?opsys=%20i386&lng=en&ver=9.0b

New features in Opera 9 include
Widgets - Small Web applications (multimedia, newsfeeds, games and more) that make your desktop experience more fun. Any Web developer can create their own Widgets and share them, regardless of operating system. Try the Widgets in Opera 9 by pressing F6. Look for further development of Opera Widgets in future releases.
BitTorrent - Instead of having to use a separate BitTorrent application for downloading large files, users can now simply click a torrent file and start the download
Content blocker - Choose the content you want to view. Remove ads or images - it is up to you. Right-click on the Web page and choose "Block content"
Improved rich text editing - Take advantage of rich text editing capabilities when using the latest Web mail or blogging services
Customize your search engines – Use your favorite search engine in the search box. Right-click on the site's search field and select "Create search" from the menu
Thumbnail preview – It's easy to have many tabs open at once in Opera. But exactly which tab had that video you wanted? Hover any tab to see a thumbnail preview
Site-specific preferences - Do you need to view a site in a different way or deny certain cookies? Want to block pop-ups on certain sites only? Site specific preferences hold the key

Anyone have some fun archived visitor logs showing the spread of Fx?

I use Firefox by default. Its because of easiness and of course tabbed browsing. It also supports selective source view.. and this is extremely useful for debugging, since i am in webdevelopment.

But I also use Internet Explorer to test the javascript errors. Firefox cant help me in this.

Besides, to make my site suitable for cross browser compatibility, i also use other browsers like opera, netscape etc.

But as long as my preference is concerned, Its the Firefox.

Safari is really fast. Sometimes it feels faster than firefox and it has better behavior under tab-benching. But firefox tends to be my new old choice. I used it with windows, linux and with mac, until x10.4. In X 10.4 safari really upped the ante. But as I get more interested in web developement, I find many firefox extensios invaluable.
The future in browsers will be the personalisation, and apart from personal css, firefox also gives you Grease Monkey. Check this extension out. It comes with excellent documentation from the legendary Mark Pilgrim of the Dive into series. So, Dive into Grease Monkey and "teach an old web new tricks".

From my experience, Internet explorer has the most compatibility with website coding, like recently i had to recode my whole website because it didn't view propperly on firefox.
Stubru Freak
That's because your website has IE-only code. You could just as easy write a website which will work perfectly in all browsers but totally break in Internet Explorer. Even a W3C-compliant website, that will validate in the W3C Validator.

Almost every time I use Mozzila Firefox which is my favourite web browser. There are a lot of plugins which can even improve performance in all views, for example fasterfox which improves the speed of opening pages. In my opinion, tabs and less exploit holes are the biggest advantages of firefox in front of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The only disadvantage of firefox is higher memory usage when you have opened more tabs, because firefox saves pages to disk so you can look at them faster when you click "back" button. You also can't upload files to ftp servers but only download them and there is no function to login on ftp as user (unless you write direct URL which is not safe).
Overal firefox is very good browser which becomes better every day.

I hate IE it always closes on you for unexpected reasons, and dispite you internet provider, it always makes things slower. People who like IE probabliy have never even used another browser.

I wouldn't have a problem with Firefox, like i could understand why everyone likes it, but it is just not for me. It is too plain jane, and like IE, people keep adding tools bars too it. That is what I like about Opera, it allows for tabing, you never need another tool bar, because it has your basics right there. It has a built in password remeber (so you don't need that pesky Robo...w/e crap), and a text to speech tool at the touch of a button (v). Yeah I know, Firefox has all that too, but to my knowledge, FF doesn't have a theme and skin manager, like opera does. So yeah OPERA ALL THE WAY BABY!
william
You guys should use Opera. I usually use Opera and Firefox. I prefer Opera over Firefox because it's fast and loaded with features. The only problem is that it's not compatible with some websites. When that's the case, I use Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is terrible. The next version has some features (such as tabs) that it's competitors had. Though, it's still not so great. The new version of Opera seems great and same with the new version of Firefox. By the way, Firefox is a great browser with many plug-ins, but like I said, it lacks features that Opera has.

I use Safari on my Mac and Firefox on my PC. I never really liked IE.

But Opera seems to be less supported as compared to Firefox. For example, it is not a "fully supported browser" for GMail. IE is obviously the most supported browser of the Internet, but it is poor security. So i think Firefox is the balanced between security & support.

defintely firefox. I jump around a lot between operating systems and its nice to have a consistent interface between them for web browsing. Also its far more secure than IE and extendable with oodles of plugins.Tabs are your best friend

i was using firefox all the while, until i saw opera.
on opera, u can view the webpage stats on the status bar.
stats as in the loading speed, size of the documents, bytes loaded and time taken.
i believe no browser have that feature other than opera.

sometimes opera displays pages incorrectly, but its a rare case.
firefox has zero flaws, according to my experience.
but i still like opera more... Very Happy

I am little bit surprised with procent of Mozilla votes.Maybe is that because on forums come little bit smarter people.Others don't even go to forums, just chatting, working,or watching something.I am too using Mozilla and it is the best browser I ever tried, much much faster than IE and Opera too.Mozilla have little bug when loading bif file.

have you tried firefox? IE has always been dwarfed by firefox and opera. to me it seems too easy a question. IE security is a joke, as are load up time, ease of use and control layout (file/next/history etc). Plus tabs are such a time saver. what is IE 7 if its firefox with more eye candy?

Recently Netscape sent me an AOL type cd. What is that about?

Firefox is my favorite all time browser, I love the customizability (sp?) of it, the tabbed browsing, and it never has problems. Sometimes I use Opera too....but rarely.

I hate IE. I only ever use it because of the fact that msn messenger seems to think it is my default browser. Evil or Very Mad

I mainly use Opera and FireFox. Opera 9 Beta is faster and has some really nice options, but FireFox impresses with its addons like IE-Tab, which helps for developing and for a few sites that still look best on iExplorer.

Previously i have mentioned that i use IE6 but now i have changed my mind ... firefox has become very handy and user friendly with all the available functions and shortcuts!

FireFox has a lot of useful addons that make browsing easier. Very Happy Opera looks good and some points also has features similar to that of FireFox, but these are quite few. The Opera community is not as active and lively as the FireFox community (of developers I mean)

I use Firefox, but not mainly because of the extra security, but because of the extensions system, the I like very much. Sure Internet Explorer have a plugins system, but it doesn't let you really customize your Internet Explorer like Firefox lets you.
I like Opera too, but I really prefer Firefox interface. Opera just looks ugly in my opinion...

I've tried Opera before, but it's a bit too ugly and outdated Sad. Now I'm using school IT resources, so I must use IE, and I think that it's not so bad. However, my favourite is FireFox, mostly because of its extensions and skins. They really customize your browser a lot, adding many functions, and the skins are terrific Very Happy.

WOW I am amazed at the high votes Firefox gets. I started using it and loved some of its features but went back to IE and I must say did not pay much attention to the goings on with people swopping. Are you firm Firefox fans finding that websites are now being built for acess in all browsers or is there still a tendency to find IE specific sites. After reading some of the replies I am definetley going to give it another go.

it's a damnn good piece of software i think. and it works much faster than firefox, as far as i see.
one drawback is that some applets are not supported, for example Mambo admin panel, some online text editing controls and so on. when i get one of those problems, i have to run firefox, but that works much slower really..

i don't know.. i'm sure there's a way to make opera work with all that stuff.. has any of you tried to use MAMBO under OPERA? have you tried to do anything to make it work..?

This is my fourth year using Opera. It is a big experience that opera gave to me in these 4 years, opera open the world of internet for me, and help me to unleash the full potential of the internet through useful integrated tools. I never worried about plugins or anything like that. Everything I needed are provided by opera. Nowadays, opera even comes with an integrated torrent downloader, so that I can directly download any torrent file coming in my way while I am surfing. Opera is a BIG eXXperience! Exclamation

I actually just recently converted to Firefox completely from Internet Explorer and made it my default internet browswer. I just like how more smoother it seems to run and adore the tab functions...it's a lot better then having a gazillion Internet Explorer windows open and has a smattering of other useful tools and plug-ins, and I haven't gotten any junk like I did when I used Internet Explorer, either.

The reason is obviously NOT that we are prejudiced against Microsoft. If you look at the number of vulnerabilities and exploits IE has, you will know why everyone shuns from it, unless you are those who doesnt care whether his comp is infected, hacked or crashed. You can see the list of vulnerabilities of IE at http://secunia.com/product/11/, and you can compare it with other browsers on the same site (secunia) too.

I use Firefox because there are plug-ins available for variety of purposes and entertainment. One such is the VideoDownloader plugin that is capable of grabbing flash videos from You Tube. Another useful plugin is the IE tab so I can switch between IE and Firefox effortlessly while developing web pages.

However, Yahoo Toolbar enables Internet Explorer to have tabbing functionality. So it's still OK to use IE.

I am using IE6 mod. I modded it involuntarily by installing a IE7b trial i got from MS. I did not like it, so I uninstalled it. But the uninstall left residue and somehow improved the compliance with (X)HTML and CSS. I now see almost no difference in rendering css websites in IE6 or Firefox.
Since then I replicated the effect on two other Laptops.

I will go for Mozilla Firefox... aside from it is an open source, it has features that IE is still striving to develop in its beta release like tabbed browsing and security features like built-on popup blocker...

And this browser evolves faster and updates regularly for some improvements and u can make some configurations in it code by code...

I use ff beta 2. To the poster above, how doy you save a session? The only wya ive been able to do it now is to close process from taskmanager, so it prompts me to restore session, but i havent seen a way you can tell it to saveyour session, eh?

Ive tried Opera 9, but honeslty im just not used to it. The downloads tab is irritating, seriously, and the bittorrent totally cannot compare with bitcomet. Surprisingly, it easily chalks up 90 mb of ram easily on my com, more than firefox very often, so i switched back. And i like widgets... But sometimes i must use firefox for AJAX sites

Opera is my favourite and i never use any other untill i just wanna download songs from one particular site.i dont know y opera doesnt work there. Second i would prefer firefox. it has lot of additional features which can be found in its site.but once u install them, loading firefox becomes slow.otherwise its a great choice.

For download resume, I use WackGet.

I've been using firefox since last year. Firefox is more secure and more reliable than IE. Firefox also loads pages at the fastest speed. And you can download add-ons like fasterFox and video downloader that suits your needs.

Firefox is the best!

IE may suck - but in a recent browser study it had less vunerabilities than FireFox. FireFox had 47 and IE had 38. Firefox has the advantage that it gets patched faster though.

I use a mac and linux mostly. so my primary browser is safari and firefox. I'm a web developer so I really like safari's css support and firefox has the best javascript support. I tend to use both when testing my projects that I'm working on. but I tend to use firefox more for testing just because it has more market share. I refuse to use IE or try to hack up my web apps just to be viewable in IE. Whatever I can do to push anyone away from IE i will do it.

mozilla rocks!!!!
IE can be easily hacked

Personally I use Firefox and Opera almost exclusively. I used to use IE for Windows Updates till I found this little gem: http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/. Since we have so many Firefox users I thought someone might find that useful (it's an extension for Firefox that allows you to download and install Windows Updates without having to use IE).

I most definatly use Opera! I still have firefox, however, for those stubborn sites that require IE. I love how Firefox allows you to open an "I.E. tab".

What drew me to Opera, (other than the speed) was the tab-saving thing. When I close Opera, I know that the next time I open it up, I can leave off right where I started! This leaves my bookmarks nice and tidy.
top526
though it still has a few problems with selected sites, it's much better than explorer. The new Explorer (RC 2 of version 7) is stable but very very high on system resourse. I have 512 Mb of Ram and still the explorer is very heavy.
roseredd
I agree- it's a real system hog. Opera is so light, I love it! Very Happy

You know, for about a year I'd been using Safari, but now I've started using Opera again. Opera 9 is pretty nice. Definately, the top of my list would include, Safari, Firefox, Camino, and Opera.

Personally, I have used many of the browsers that are out there, and I was always partial to the old Mozilla Suite with the Multizilla extension that gave good, solid tabbed browsing. Firefox didn't catch my attention for a while because the tabbed browsing was way behind the facilities that Multizilla provided in the Mozilla browser.

I then switched to Opera because it had the tabbed browser support that I enjoyed, but it was also very fast and quite stable.

Now, I find that Firefox itself isn't necessarily a compelling choice, but the large amount of community support and excellent extensions make it an excellent choice for my day-to-day browsing.

I have tried Opera 9 which is very good and extensible, it doesn't (at least yet) have quite the same developer following as Firefox.

So it is Firefox for now... lets see what happens in the future Very Happy

I use Firefox (rather than IE) for two reasons:

1. Nobody else in my family uses it, so I can make it "remember my password" and things without anybody having to go through much of a hassle.
2. Tabbed browsing.

Also, I like the extensions that you can put on it. I have an FTP client, an IRC client and other things like that.

I've tried things like Opera, but they're kinda weird.

I use mostly firefox. I also use Internet Explorer sometimes. And i dont use mozilla at all.
Firefox is good to use but i found some files or formats are not supported..hence they are not displayed on the page.
In such cases i use Internet Explorer.
I also like the tabs system in firefox which is not available in IE.

all thumbs up for Firefox ..especially for the recently released RC2 version. Its fast..pretty fast ! I used Opera earlier .. the latest opera ver is worth giving a try. My vote will go to firefox though.

prolly some formats which are proprietary to Microsoft, or not compatible with FF. One example is windows media player not being able to play in FF, coz as u noe, why would MS want to let its media player integrate into its competitor's software?

i personally recommend Opera and Firefox.

Opera is now growing popularity because they released it free to use, which was not so in the past. I reallly love Opera. IE7 comes now but it is only the same IE with a new sleek face, usability and functionalities continues to be opera's area, noone can take that seat even if they copy the things that Opera comes with.

Firefox RC3 is good with the sidebar changing colour when your mouse is over it and the new design in Firefox 2.0. So far Firefox RC3 did not give me any problem and it is working really fine with my computer. Firefox RC3 don't crash much unless loading pdf files but now faster than 1.5. I liked the expandibility of Firefox but htere were just a couple small things (one being, suprisingly, that i couldnt find a theme i was happy with) so i use flock. I like the ui (especially the tab abd favourites bar).
Also, Flock has sweet rss and photos features.
I tryed once to switch over to firefox. I moved all my favs and everything over, but i never lasted 5 minutes.

I prefer firefox. At this moment I'm using IE. Most of the browsers I have tried end up being very similar, with similar options. I've tried several and I use firefox because it was the first I tried, and im the most comfortable with.
shyscs
I usually use firefox for normal browsing, but when i get 'tab overload' I open an opera window for them to spill over onto. I haven't really used IE in the past few months, but the one feature I like the most about both browsers is obviously the tabs (which I also overuse often). A complaint which doesn't really apply to the browser but to adobe is that 1/5 times, pdf files make both browsers freeze...
PhilSS
I use Firefox only. It's faster, easier to use, tabbed browsing rocks, and it is way more secure than IE.

Plus, with the right add-on, you can open IE only pages in tabbed browsing using your built in IE inside of Firefox. Look for IE Tab on the extensions for Firefox.

Happy and Safe browsing to you all!

Firefox mostly, with occasional trips to Konqueror when I just click a link in some other KDE program or something. BTW, shouldn't Konqueror and Safari be the same entry. The underlying HTML engine is the same between them.

I am using Internet Explorer for now. But I use Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox both. Firefox looks more intresting, because Internet Explorer is what I used up to this year, so I know it well. But Firefox is a new world to discover.

As there is a was between Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, I read many intresting stuff about them. Many of resourses say bad things about Internet Explorer and reverse: good about Mozilla Firefox.

Since I use both of them, I enjoy Firefox more. Maybe the reason is that Firefox is an open-source program and has many new add-ons and extensions.

Even though I don't use much extensions on Firefox, it has some little advantages against to Internet Explorer, like "passwords". On the other hand, I hear/read many times that Firefox is safer (especially Google says it on its advertisements). But in some sites, I read that there is not much difference about safety between IE and FF.

At last: I realize that Firefox needs more RAM, and forces my computer, takes a little more time to work for the first time, but it opens webpages faster.

I use IE most of the time. I just upgraded to 7 and when using firefox or opera the IE is just as fast on my DSL connection.

Before the upgrade firefox was the fastest. @ work we have a T1 and I don't notice as much of a difference in speed between the IE7 and firefox.

Firefox may be slow and it does have a learning curve (Opera too) but once you get into it IE just sits in the dust!

Most people use IE because it's there.
How many don't even know what a browser is?

With all the money MSN have, it took them how many light years to get tabbed browsing?

It took Hotmail how long to realize that 10 megs of space isn't enough anymore?

Mozilla, Opera and Open Source efforts are the true innovators on the internet and should be encouraged! MSN just copies and they do a very sad job at it, i must say. Rolling Eyes

Now, who's talking about being "slow" here?

I use firefox as it is customizable with the different plug ins and has ie tab which can render ie pages within firefox using ie so i don't have to switch browsers.

Netscape : rather fast and rather secure
IE : fast but moderate secure.

So I have used Opera 9 until now.

Thanks.

I think MS used proprietary code & ActiveX in Windows Updates, that is why Firefox cannot open, which is one of the reasons everyone who used Windows is forced to keep IE, unless you think that you do not need to install the critical updates. Everytime I view Windows Live Spaces using Firefox, they would purposely show an error page. However, if you refresh the page, you can view it already.

I downloaded Firefox yesterday and haven't been best pleased. It works and appears quite good; however I couldn't get flash work properly, and the plugin just stopped downloading before it finished every time I tried to install it. I got that working after at least 10 tries though.

If anyone can answer these questions I might end up using it more often:
1) Is there any way to change the number of lines it scrolls through when you use the scroll button on your mouse, if so: how?
2) On IE you can press ctrl+o and it brings up a little window in which you enter a URL; when you click OK the web site you entered opens as it would if you had ente
