YAHOO! Announced GeoCities Is Closing

After YAHOO! announced that their Geocities 360 Blog was closed recently, today they announced again that Yahoo! GeoCities, their free web site building service and community, is closing on October 26, 2009.

So, On October 26, 2009, all GeoCities site will no longer appear on the Web, and user will no longer be able to access their GeoCities account and files.

They also announce that if you'd like to move your web site, or save the images and other files on Geocities you've posted online, you need to act now by choosing one of the following options:

Move your site to Yahoo! Web Hosting, which will cost you $4.99 a month for a full year.

OR...

Download all of your files to your own computer.

Did you know? The quickest way to do that, you have to visit your GeoCities web site, right-click on each page, and choose Save Page As... from the menu that appears. Choose a location on your computer to save your files, then click OK or Save.

Ohhh... God....

I feel bad about Geocities. Until the change of Yahoo ownership, Geocities was the oldest and one of the better free webhosting service on the web. I put my first web page in 1999 on a Geocities site so I am kinda sentimental about it.

Geocities is finally closed.
The website that I had made is finally gone to i-dust.
Oh well, at least we have frihost for now Laughing .
