How to start a forum?

distantship
I'm planning to start a new forum in my home country but I've never made any forum before, so, I really need your opinions on the followings:

1. What script or service provider you would recommend?
2. How to promote forum?
3. How to make money using forums?
4. What should I be careful on maintaining forums?

Any other kinds of suggestions are welcome! Please let me know if you have any input Smile Thanks a lot in advance!

1. I think PhpBB is the great forum service.

2. Use Google to promote your forum.

3. Use Google Ad sense you get money from when people click links to other sites that Google posts on there.

4. To be careful don't use colors that clash on your forum. Make sure if you get any Admins and Mods you know that they won't shutdown your forum. Which they can with Admin powers.

1. I tryd PhpBB once , didn't like it , excessively complicated .
I think forum from simplemachines.org is mach simple.

2. There are so many options .
SEO and content are important .

3. I don't like Google Ad sense , they may cancel You account any time whit no reason.
And any banned user from You forum may get You google account canceled by clicking Your ads
many times. I suggest for start projectwonderful.com , You may click You own ads as mach You want
and system there is easy and clever .

4. Don't give Admins and Mods powers lightly.

PS. I posted first and then checked Your website and now I think Google Ad sense maybe the best
solution for Your site and forum.
Nice site You have.

I would say the same but you can also use SMF, which is also free.

4. You can begin with a template you found on the internet and you can make your template by editing that template (maybe with some help of the members on your forum Smile ).

If you want to network and get your forum to grow you need to get people there and if you want to get people there you need to network and grow. Which comes first the chicken or the egg?

Well, the first thing I'd do is reach out to passionate users in your niche or industry and get them to start posting on your forum and maybe create posts that have the same titles as the top 25 search terms in your niche.

Also, start small with only 4 or 5 forum categories.
