CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Scared-stiff astronomers have detected a mysterious mass they've dubbed a "chaos cloud" that dissolves everything in its path, including comets, asteroids, planets and entire stars -- and it's headed directly toward Earth!
Discovered April 6 by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, the swirling, 10 million-mile- wide cosmic dust cloud has been likened to an "acid nebula" and is hurtling toward us at close to the speed of light -- making its estimated time of arrival 9:15 a.m. EDT on June 1, 2014. |
This gives new meaning to the term "global warming". I haven't searched for other articles about this yet, but I wonder how much credibility there is for this, especially whey you read the very last sentance in the article.
Hey S3nd, the link you gave times out on me.
And so does any other link that google comes up with and which appear to be more than just gossip.
(Yes, I was actually concerned, I'm not dying a natural death before 2014 you see
)
But from the looks of it, I'll guess that it's nothing but more material for internet gossip.
edit - the link finally worked *curses the slow internet connection*
and the first thing I noticed is that this was posted in the "Entertainment News & Gossip" section !
I'll advise you not to lose your sleep.

I've searched for that news story a little bit... but I found the same journalist on every site...
I'm not going to believe it until I read some more articles about this written by other journalists or rather, confirmed by some agency responsible for Space Exploration.
I've done a small bit of research now, and have come to the same conclusion as I did originally, | S3nd K3ys wrote: |

and concur with both of you.
Still a fun read though.
While I am hoping that this doesn't happen (I want to grow old with the woman I love) something like this isn't unbelieveable. I hope the whole "space ark" thing works out if it does, I don't want to be an astronaut, but I do think it would be great to visit different places in the universe.
I dug up a little more about Weekly world news.
These guys are creative.
Some of their past headlines include -
"UFO crashes in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina brought it down" and "Yoda to be nominated for State's defence secretary" and
"Chinese admit: 'we can't tell each other apart, either'"
and ofcourse
"Elvis is alive"

I smell phoneyness folks!
funny post. And very good fiction. BUT there is some truth to this story and it based around something scientist discovered a year or so back, it was like a strange black mass around a star or something they couldnt explain.
I see a whole problem with this arc theory, if the cloud travels at the speed of light, how far you do think our ark will get in a couple years, out of the way?, i think not, how long does it take to get to pluto, yah thats right, a REALLY long time. If this is true, and we can somehow nutralize the particles, were donebar, so lets scew and be merry
.
Ps, if we do die in 2014 i will only be 29 years old, :'(, thats dissapointing.
AHHHHHHHHHH. Dooms day!!!!!!!!!!!!
2014. 9 years from now.
I will only believe it when it will be published on the World News and will be confirmed by the NASA or other space organizations. Recently was there a discuss about a comet that should crash on earth, but you can see that the comet was passing by.
If the date will be corrected than i shall die when i am 31 years old.
So i hope that i can live with a beautiful young lady and when can get children and even grandchildren. So that i can die when i am old man that can die when my body says that is time. No space ramp will kill me, i want a natural death.
So let's hope that nature and space let us live for many terms.
God Speak
I read about this. If the planet will really dissolve in 2014, we're screwed >.<
I have a feeling that this may not be true though..
actually, a little off topic, but still end of the worldish. The Mayans were the first ones to create a calendar and time based system, and it's so precise it's not even funny. To this day, it is only off by like 33 seconds. They predicted the end of the world to be on Dec. 23 of 2012. Hope their wrong
if it's our time to die,
then it's our time to die.
but before we die, we gonna make that dusty shit suck hell.
We gonna NUKE NUKE MILLION NUKE IT.

Lol, that article is cool. Good piece of fiction.
I don't really think that I understand the whole bunch of quantum mechanics stuff... but... mangled information. lol. Is that what remains when I delete files on my hard disk?
However, the dude who wrote that must really be quite intelligent. In fact some of the information he provides is actually correct. There is a phenomenon called hawking radiation (although it's not been proven with experiments yet) and he explaines it quite good.
@blueknot:
did you ever try to blow up a "dust cloud" or "acid nebula"?
So long
Blamestar
Its probobly just a cloud of dust that is obscuring the stars, comets, and asteroids; not destroying them.
Either that, or its a smudge on the telescope (lol)
