New cell phone technology is created.....

subirbasak
U.S. engineers have created a technology that allows a person to write a note in the air with their cell phone and send the message to an e-mail address.

Duke University engineering researchers said their invention is designed for people who have their hands full of items -- briefcase, laptop, a coat or luggage -- who need to make a note, but don't want to stop and put down all of the items they're carrying.

The technology makes use of the accelerometers in cell phones -- devices that not only keep track of the phone's movements, but make it possible for display screens to rotate from landscape to portrait modes depending on how the phone is moved.

"By holding the phone like a pen, you can write short messages or draw simple diagrams in the air," computer engineering student said Sandip Agrawal, who, with Duke graduate student Ionut Constandache, developed the PhonePoint Pen.

"The accelerometer converts the gestures to images, which can be sent to any e-mail address for future reference," Constandache added. "The potential uses are practically limitless."

The prototype is expected to be available for download within the next few months. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I see this technology as having a lot of potential but I also see it as starting off with a lot of problems. I suspect that it may be difficult, at first, to get a legible message by moving the phone though the air. I also suspect that the accelerometer may not be sensitive enough to pick up the entire message without "skipping." Even technologies right now that are "touch based" instead of just moving through the air tend to skip some (skip meaning breaking up a little).

Or, since you're holding it in your hand already, you could just talk on it like a normal phone...

Kudos for inventing a new input device though. Computers need an accessory that has accelerometers in it. It would be of great use for game controllers, art/drawing programs, and possibly 3D design.

(In games, the computer is definitely missing a Wii-like functionality... just think of all the interesting things that could happen when open source programming meets Wii-type games!)

(Graphics programs could use the input much like those phones do, perhaps using the Z axis for brush pressure or opacity...)

(Suppose the accelerometerized accessory represented the 3D object you were modeling, and you could turn the accelerometer to rotate the 3D model... Or suppose it was built into a laptop, and you could make it so that the laptop's (or tablet's) screen behaved like a window to the 3D world you were making: turning the view depending on the orientation of the screen.)

I think only accelerometers can not do the input divice job.

Person holding the phone should get a Feed back force, or

should have 3D/2D hologramic screen on which he can see (visual feed back)
what is is writing.

could someone give more information please
for exaple:
where can we get this from

this technology is avaliable or not for now?

This seems like it could be a very interesting technology. I doubt it works very well right now as accelerometers aren't quite accurate enough to draw something. It makes the most sense when it comes to diagrams. I can just imagine the implications for engineers who can draw something in the air for a client and have it emailed to them.

very good technology, i need it. can you show me where i can get it?.
