whoa.
I'm not trying to stick up for that kid, but he must have some serious mental issues going on. If it had happened in my country (the US) he more than likely would have been sent to a mental institution and may never see the inside of a prison cell.
We have actually charged 13 year old's as adults for similar crimes in the US. They serve time in a juvenile detention center until they are 18, then go to big-boy prison.
This is sad...
I don't like that they allude to pornography being a possible influence. That's like saying video games or music influences kids to this kind of behavior. If any of these things are that much of an influence, then there was already something wrong with the kid to start with.

Yeah that part struck me as odd too.
AAAAH!...... AAAAAH!
What the hell is with people today
AAAAH!
Since the world population is rapidly increasing, we can only expect more of these sick stories. What is the world coming to? Many people ask this question... there's no simple answer.
Things like this always happened, but with modern technology we tend to hear it from the other side of the world. Like you guys haven't heard of a guy here in Holland who violently fist-raped his ex. Her womb is destroyed, just like her anus which she can never use again for everyday practises.
The little boy of the article of this topic probably had a mental disorder combined with the rush of testosterone that comes with that age and just didn't know how to control himself. A psych would indeed be a VERY good idea. Jail isn't.

Even better, execution.
If we steadily eliminate such people, hopefully the human gene pool will eventually loose the propensity towards such acts.
Oh, I'm sure the kid was abused when he was that age too, or something, but reacting to anything in that kind of fashion is worth eliminating from the species.

You had me at 'execution'.
You know what the best part of being mistaken for a liberal is? It's people assuming that I am anti-execution. I swear... If I had a nickel for every time people assumed I wanted to coddle criminals, I would have.. like... a 'Chris Penn Head' full of nickels...
From time to time, every herd needs to be culled...
Just chattin' 'bout Eugenics. Krikey. Another idea from the trashcan of tragic history.
on edit, some info on Eugenics in the USA here http://www.eugenicsarchive.org/eugenics/list2.pl
Many people think the Nazis invented it, but that's not true.

You're right, he has to be seriously whacko. His actions show complete diminished responsibility, as though he did not really know what he was doing? Perhaps due to abuse himself?
Also agree with Ocalhoun and Solon, he could be covering up for someone else. Horrible story.
Very painful specially for the parents. I think pornography and themes of certain movies and games has its parts in exploiting children. I see children around who use to talk much older than they are and this is increasing as days are passing. Vulgar slang, abusing is more common in youg children than ever before.
I've been raised in the Holland of the nineties, who were REALLY vulgar and pornographic. But little troubles seem to be from my "generation" (I'm nearly 20). Maybe it are the parents who don't seem to know what to do with it in the parts of the world where these (violent/vulgar) kind of media is pretty new for them.

What's wrong with eugenics, really? As long as the goals are sensible (such as eliminating child rapists), I find it a perfectly reasonable course of action.
Of course, trying to create an 'ideal race' with it is wrong, because variety is very important to a species.
Just look what a few thousand years of eugenics did for our plants, pets, and livestock.
It struck me the other day that we seem to be missing an interesting point in the article:
What the hell was a 3 year old girl doing across the street playing unsupervised?
As far as eugenics goes; I am all for weeding out the bad elements of society. This whole idea of imprisoning people for life who will never be reformed, or who's crimes can never be forgiven, is a weakness under the guise of 'enlightenment'.
Sad but at least it is being dealt by law, check the following link

Who is there to listen to cries of these pool souls, this is going on in today's world in a Country which is known to be a super power. And although the actual crime is being done in China, the driving force behind it is all around the world, Europe, America, and the rest of the world. People want to have fluffy fur on them regardless of where it comes from and how it is created. Made me sick to death while watching that video and I cried for half hour after that. I just can not imagine how can this happen and how can we be so ignorant as humans.
It's a sick world. I get to deal with things like this on a regular basis. I took 8 months off from work after an especially disturbing case some years ago that involved a young girl who died in the back of the ambulance, right there holding my hand. A war zone didn't even give me nightmares as bad as that case. Sometimes, I wonder if it's even worth all the effort.
And people wonder why I want my own island.

The extremes of people behaviour are awful, but there is still some entertainment values of interacting with them. I also think of my island quite a bit, but wonder whether I will miss being irritated and upset by behaviours that I cannot understand, and quite a number of times cannot accept. That has to be the key in all of this, to become like one of those mystic swamis that accept the good and bad in people completely. I flunk badly at that every day. The only part that makes it palatable is the ability to laugh at it all. I wish I could do more of that where I am!
