Davide Carradine

Maybe this should be in World News, I don't know. I just found a neat exerpt from a book written by him, and it was kind of touching.

David Carradine wrote:
There was the niggling realization that Quentin was lumping me with all the losers, the faded almost-stars, the totally faded TV guys, and, of course, the bad boys. True enough, all of it. For the last couple of years I’d been supporting myself with autograph conventions. I was always the biggest thing there, but that’s not saying too much. Guys from old TV shows, the girl from The Little Rascals movies (now in her seventies), Linda Blair of The Exorcist, Scotty from Star Trek. Scary. I could hear the coffin nails being driven in.

But those are the guys he loves the most, more than the big, successful stars. A guy like Quentin has got to be rooting for the underdog. He reaches out a hand to those he thinks aren’t too far gone, and whom he thinks are worth saving. The cool part of it all is that he picked me to work this time. I’ll sure as hell do my best to come up to his expectations.

I may just go buy this book.

I always liked Carradine's movies, the facts of his death, however disturbing they may be, won't change they way I think of him as an actor.

Yeah I have always liked him too. It's a little sad reading that excerpt from his book and seeing how he thought about himself, and yet he could see the humor in it.

I sighed a sad sigh for David Carradine. I don't care how he liked to get his jollies, that's really a crappy way to go. Kung Fu. Kill Bill. That's how I choose to remember him. Sad

What makes it exceptionally sad is he had a very long and distinguished (kinda...sorta) acting career, he starred in like 30+ movies...but what people are going to talk about most is how he died. I can see it now, see a movie with him in it and someone commenting "did you hear how he died?", and we all know how warped stories get over time. Can you imagine the stories that are going to be told about him?

Not the footnote I'd like attached to my life.

The way I see it, his death was fitting (something completely out of the ordinary, just like him). Great actor though!

I think his death was sad. I also admired his acting. Always consistent in his performances.

Looks as though Nick Nolte is going the same way. Old age is really not for sissies. Especially when a person has had to pay a lot of attention to what he looks like, and perhaps is just tired and bored with it all along "been there ... done that" lines.

I grew up watching him on Kung-Fu and always enjoyed him.
I am glad his death wasn't suicide.
He will be missed.

KungFu was a must-watch show when I was a kid....classic performances from a few of the actors on there, though it never made me want lessons! Very Happy

He was definitely iconic in the eyes of many of my generation.

Upon reflection, and the fact there are several other topics of this nature there already, I -moved- this one to Discuss World News
