550 Permission problem

Arty
I have a lot of folders which I can't move or delete, why is this?

Every time I try to move or delete it, it says 550 Permission denied or 550 Operation not permitted.

I read that changing the file permissions would help (Not that I understand how it would help) but when I try changing the file permissions it also gives me Permission denied...

Any idea on what I'm supposed to do?

And can someone explain how this can freaking happen?
All I did was upload an SMF forum and install it, along with some custom mods.

I'm on cPanel Server one.

That looks like an FTP error. Have you uploaded some files using a web interface ? Normally they are owned by Apache user, and can not be deleted until you reset the permission.

I haven't used CPanel for a while as I'm on the DirectAdmin server. However, in DirectAdmin there is an option in the web-based file manager to "reset permissions".

Hopefully CPanel has a similar option and this will solve your problem. If not, ensure you're logging in to FTP with your main username and password, not one you've set up yourself.

...And can you tell me how to reset their permission?

Here's what I did, I uploaded the zip file using FTP and then I went to the file manager in cPanel and extracted the files out of it.

WHat do all the Request Error and such numbers refer to?

I only know the famous 404... kinda reliable! HAHA

and no "Backseat Moderating".

I'm looking into your problem.

Ok I think I figured out the problem

I am using Simple Machine Forums on my website, and when I tried to install a mod or a theme by uploading a .zip file, it made the uncompressed folder owned by "nobody".

How do I fix this? Is there any way to take ownership of a file on my site without asking you guys every time?
