Hello
What are your views on graphic designs and the arts?
Do you prefer simplicity or complicated... obvious or surreal?
Not only graphics, but arts in general... movies, tv, music... what do you like and dislike?
Why do you find one thing so frustrating, when another so freeing?
I'm much more in for abstract art and stuff from people's imaginations. Not to say that Da Vinci's art is bad, but I'd much rather go for the sci-type or the type with a lot of color and not that much definition to what the art actually depicts. I've tried playing with photoshop for quite a while, and I still feel like I suck at making stuff look like images that popped out of my imagination.
When I design a website or something (like in my art classes), I like the simplicity, whatever I do, I try as much as possible to do something simple. I also like the futurists style and sci-fi too a little bit but I always try to keep it simple.
Simplicity is beautiful at my eyes.
I love the Science Fiction/Fantasy art of Boris Vallejo and Rowena. It is obviously SciFi, but it is very realistically done.
When I paint, draw or render computer graphics I always try for a realistic look and feel. I don't like abstract art at all. I think if you are going to create something, take the time and effort to make it actually LOOK like something. Don't just throw paint at a canvas, or chip randomly into granite or marble, give it a fancy name and call it art!
If you're going to paint a rose, it doesn't have to look as if you could pluck it off the canvas, but come on, it should be identifiable as a rose ... or at least a flower, for Pete's sake!!
And there is a difference between abstract and stylized. An Eskimo's stylized carving of a polar bear or a whale may not look exactly like the animal, but -- in my opinion -- that IS art.
My 2 cents,

I love maximalism when it comes to designing graphics. I think it might be a trend, though...especially when it comes to television commercial/show graphics, because I keep seeing a maximalist style where graphics are more ornamental and flowery.
i personally prefer simplicity ,but i often do design style according to its content. or the customer's request sometimes.
In Graphic Design, I believe that the design must follow the content. What kind of response are you trying to get? What would be appropriate to the message?
In art, I have a crazy fascination with the Bauhaus movement of the 1960's. I loved the emphasis Bauhaus artists put on usability and utility. I think there are many good lessons graphic designers today can take from that, especially web designers.
When it comes to graphics, I think simple & bold is best.
I favour symmetry too, in designs, keeping a nice balanced look to the work.
The Bauhaus movement is great! And I agree, a design should be based upon content and usability. If I'm designing for a product, I want to make sure the design does not compromise its function.
