Need help to translate, English to German.

So I am looking at getting a tattoo that says - "Remember and Learn" but I want it in German, for several personal reasons.

I have used the online translators and I get similar results but I would like a human translation to confirm it for me, I will give out Frih$ to people who give me good answers, I would like a few translations.

So please post the translation for "Remember and Learn" in this thread or pm me, it would be a big help.

Hm, I'd say:

erinnere dich und lerne
because it refers to somebody (dich - you), resp. it's a saying (like: remember your mistakes and learn from them)

What did the online translators suggest?

I quite like your response, but its not just my mistakes i wanna remember, its a range of other things, events for instance. However I am considering something like that now. I'll send some points your way.

The general response I have been getting from the online translators for "remember and learn" is "erinnern sie sich und erlernen sie" any feedback on that?

Yes, that sounds like from an online translator *g*
A teacher could be asking this: "Erinnern sie sich und (er)lernen sie?" - "Do they remember and are they studying?" And if the "sie" was written with a capital letter at the beginning (Sie) it would be honorific. "Do you remember what we discussed last meeting?" - "Erinnern Sie sich, was wir im letzten Meeting besprochen haben?"

Erlernen would be the correct translation (learn - erlernen, study - lernen, e.g. for an exam), but nobody says so, it's all about "lernen": Lifelong learning Wink Though in a computer game you "erlern" a new ability, like doing magic =)

This isn't easy Cool I'd still go for "erinnere dich und lerne", sounds natural. Another possibility would be "Aus Vergangenem lernen" - "Learning from the past", but that's already interpreted.

I really like the latter suggestion. If you are sure that is how it is written I might go for that, sorry it's just I have to be picky as I don't want any spelling mistakes in my tattoo. Smile Is there any way you can show me evidence of this? I am about to throw a whole lot of frih$ at you buddy.

I can only show you a blog entry I just found, http://historikertag.de/blog/?p=977, which was written by a woman who has studied German - she should know how you write it, though you can write "aus" in small letters as well, just do it the way it looks best.

It doesn't quite make sense, sorry. "sich erinnern" is ok, but "erfahren" is in the wrong context here. You "erfahren" news/new information (Ich habe erfahren, dass sie gestorben ist - I've heard she died; Ich habe gerade davon erfahren - I've just heard of it), you "erfahren" joy, luck, love or sorrow (Freude erfahren - experience joy/enjoy something)
And you can be "erfahren" in something (Er ist sehr erfahren im Fliegen - He has much experience in flying).
