For anyone not so keen on fiction, this is a great book.

It manages to make economic theory and the study of incentives, really fun.

ex. teachers & Sumo wrestlers and cheating, why drug dealers live with their moms, etc.

Besides teaching you economics and how do people react to incentives, it really opens your eyes to some relations you have never realised before!

It's definately a great book for exposing people to a lot of basic econometric principles. Still, sometimes the explanations or notes leave a lot of the background data (the sort of things that an interested party like an economist reading the book) in vague detail. Yes, I could go research each of the papers but sometimes I would have just preferred a longer appendix.
