Stanley Cup - Conference Finals

malcolmpreen
After an intense couple of weeks, with three of four conference semi-finals going to seven games (and the other going to six games), as well as the Sid v Alex matchup and the last two Cup winners playing.

We now have the matchups set for the Conference Finals...

In the West, an original six match up between Detroit and Chicago

Logic says that Detroit have too much strength and experience... but Chicago have youth and a never say die attitude (coming from 2 and 3 goals behind multiple times). I'm picking Chicago in 6 games.

In the East, last year's finalists, Pittsburgh take on Carolina (who seem to make the Final each time they make the playoffs).

Pittsburgh have been on fire since they changed coaches, and got Sergei Gonchar back. Crosby matched up well against Ovechkin, and Malkin didn't wake up 'til the end of the series.. Carolina on the other hand have upset New Jersey and Boston - so who says they can't win it all. Add to that, Cam Ward in goal has NEVER lost a playoff series. I think Pittsburgh have too much strength, so I'm picking Pittsburgh in 5 games.

Any thoughts ?

Malkin's 3rd goal was SICK last night!

I can't stand Detriot - yes they are good players, but my heart is with the Anaheim Ducks. They took the Wings to the brink and lost in the last seconds. I just hope that Pittsburgh keeps the series close. Nothing more boring than a 4-1 or 4-0 series ending!

I can't stand Detroit because they've been so good for so long. But really, should that be any reason to hate them? They are probably the prototypical NHL team that everyone should strive to be like. Excellent scouting and drafting, they bring their rookies along slowly, and they keep their players around for a long long time. Also, they focus on depth rather than 2 great lines and an enforcer line.

Personally I have nothing against Detroit.... I must admit I bet against them in Round 2, Round 3, and now the Finals.... It wasn't looking good.... but whilst a home team hasn't lost the series technically hasn't started...

I really hope the Pens win tonight... as three in a row against Detroit is VERY unlikely... especially with them in playoff mode.

The coverage is quite good this year.... even in the UK.... the games (and NHL on the Fly) are available on NASN (sorry ESPN America)... add in internet streaming on ESPN 360... and I've seen every minute played that I can...

No doubt I'll sleep well when its all over !!!

Go Pens...

Another good site I've learned about for watching streamed games is ustream.tv

It's great for watching the game while at work! Smile
