How long do you think will it be till we get to go in personal aerial vehicles? Any idea on whats stopping them from use?
Personal Aerial vehicles
What's stopping them?
... Well, let's categorize the reasons:
Safety
-untrained 'pilots'
-few redundant safety features on such small craft
-airway congestion (collisions)
-drunk/stoned pilots
Practicality
-must use more fuel than ground vehicles, to move horizontally and stay aloft vertically
-difficult to store enough fuel in such a small aircraft for a useful range
-would be significantly more expensive than ground vehicles, and might have a very small consumer base

Flights should be completelyautomated -with only a few inputs from the pilot
-few redundant safety features on such small craft
what kind of safety features are possible for any aircraft to say?
-airway congestion (collisions)
3d space is huge. it is definitely more than road travel
-drunk/stoned pilots
automation should solve this problem

well you have got to pay a bit more if u want to travel faster
-difficult to store enough fuel in such a small aircraft for a useful range

With time the counsumer base increases.
Thank you for your reply. are you from aeronautics?

No, not specifically, but I learn all I can about many things.
Fully automated (from takeoff to landing) flight is a long way off still. Pilots do earn their living by doing real work... And just think of the difficulties involved in your GPS unit... and what if instead of getting a turn wrong, it smashed you into the side of a building?

when I same back th e future II in 1987 (i think) - i though great 2015 - we'll have flying cars - think about having 1 of a handful of those when your stuck in 3 lanes of highway tailback and you can just rise above and off you go!
that's only 6 years away so it aint gonna happen - although I did see someone with a concept of a flying car
problem is in this time people have started to take the greenies seriously (only demeted fanatics were green in 1987 - trust me!) and of course a car than can be airborne is an anathema to the environment and fuel.
we would have to all use electric or hydrogen power (and have it so widespread that even planes use it)before we can think of this
great pity though

And then, uh-oh, it breaks down, and falls down to slam down on top of another car, killing a whole family...
Ever seen an ultralight? I think one of them would be a ton of fun, and they DON'T use much fuel,
cause they have little bitty engines, much smaller than a car engine. Of course, there is
no automation or even much shelter from the elements with most of them. But, I can see
some potential in small, slower (say between 60-100mph) personal aircraft. There are people
working on it as we speak........

there are a few flying bikes they have invented out in production but nothing too serious still have to learn how to use them...and i think its dangerous any way you look at it..if you dont know what your doing you'll be killed for sure
