[/img]Automakers Quality Comparing (1Pic)
[/img]These are averages of all cars produced by those companies though, right?
A lot of car companies (especially some of those near the bottom) make many crappy models, but have a few gems there as well.
Taking land rover as an example, most land rovers on the road are the 'discovery' model, which are cheaply built pieces of junk. The more expensive rovers, however, are extremely good.
Chrysler, however, deserves to be on the bottom. The only good thing they made recently is the wrangler with 4.0L engine, but they stopped making even that in '06.

I dont see how subaru scored so high. They make horribly unreliable engines, and their interiors are cheap and break easily. I would definitely pick any GM or chrysler product over a subaru.
Also, the heading above the graph says "predicted reliability ratings" - Which suggest no real world testing has gone into that at all.

True, are they going by real track records from previous model years, or are they just guessing about the reliability of 2010 models?
Is it bad that I still have dreams of owning a Range Rover someday? Actually, way too many people in my town drive them, but I would love to have a suped up model - maybe with an all-electric engine, since I'm dreaming.

Just get the expensive model(s), not the cheap ones; you get what you pay for.
You've got to be kidding right? Porsche? On the top of the chart? I'm guessing they don't include maintenance costs right? Chrysler all the way on the bottom, common even with the 300, Charger, Challenger, Magnum, and the trucks, I know they've had their quality issues, but I'm just not buying them being that low on the scale.
Another typical bash American Auto Manufacturers piece of information with no real data to back it up, and how much do you want to bet that they didn't even include all the models for a particular manufacturer. Maybe for quality of workmanship a Porsche beats a Toyota or Honda, and that is ONE BIG MAYBE! But as far as reliability and low maintenance costs no way does a Porsche even compare to a Honda or Toyota. Not to mention many GM and Ford Models, that have a hell of a lot less maint. costs THAN A PORSCHE. I'm not bad mouthing Porsche, they are one of the best built fastest cars on the road, and always have been, but they are like a super hot babe, high maintenance.
I have a good friend that has a 1991 Carrera 4 (AWD) fast handles well, great car, has 77k miles on it, and it has to go in twice a year for tune ups and maint. he spends over 5K a year on it. I have a 1999 Grand Am with 210,000 miles, granted it has had a transmission, head gaskets, suspension rebuild and a few other things done to it, but comparetivly speaking it seems maintenance free compared to his Porsche. BBBBUUUTTTT the Porsche is just way to fun to drive.
I kinda think the chart is BS!

You should learn to read charts.
porsche: 50% reliability
honda and toyota: almost 80%
I'd expect volvo and Mercedes to be a lot more reliable though. Also putting all subsidiary brands together doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I'd like to see the difference between audi and vw.

I'd like it separated out even more.
I'd like to see the difference between a Chevy Silverado and a Chevy Cavalier.
The last 3 cars I have bought have been Toyotas - great cars! I don't see myself buying anything else. Maybe a Honda or a Lexus.

Same here. The model (usually) makes all the difference.
