I read it just here. Have you used it? It might be the variation of Linux

What is it? please give us more information on it.

Never heard of it before but Wikipedia says it's open source and compatible with the operating system BeOS.

I've used BeOS before, it was nice but didn't have much applications. This clone seems to have the same problem.

Took a good look at it, and it seems like it would be perfect for hand-held PC's, smart phones, and micro-laptops.
The 'person' files would be useful for these kind of devices, and the heavy emphasis on being simple would keep the system requirements down for inexpensive small computers.

I've messed with it a little bit. It's still very much in the alpha stage (not really usable for day to day things). You can download the daily disk images and run them with VMware player (free) (http://www.haiku-os.org/documents/user/haiku_under_emulation) if you're interested.

If you read up on the history of BeOS (which Haiku is trying to emulate/build on ) it's pretty interesting. Evidently they were very close to have been chosen as the basis for Apple's new OS (which became OS X), instead it's largely based on the work Nextstep did.

Heres a pretty good link for a review/ info on Haiku...

Other then this I dont know much about it.

I myself have not tried it because compatability issues, and because its still in its pre-alpha stage, they currently dont have anything close to the already suckish Wine.. but maby some day I will try..

Does anyone else constantly think of the type of poem Haiku, and constantly wonder what this has to do with it?
From the topic title I thought this was about the joke about a version of windows that had all of its error messages in Haiku format.

A Haiku is small, simple, and concise, with no extra junk in it, just like this OS is meant to be.

It is a good name.

Never heard of, but this thread taught me about BeOS! Cool

presto OS is also pretty cool, but it's based on linux. seems well worth the $19 price, but i think i'll get the trial before i invest for the long run

i'm always wary of new operating systems: 'if it's not broken, don't fix it'... unless you're sure to have exponential improvements in speed/ergonomics then probly not worth it don't ya think?!

Great concept. Linux, Apple and Windows need more competition. Haiku's interface thought looks very dull. I hope at some point a pretty interface is part of the plan.

Right now I'm still testing presto OS and maybe I'll try Haiku OS too.
