can i open .rar with winzip?
possible?!?!?! thanks
I don't think you can. But it's many years since I've used WinZip. I use WinRar which is 20x better. Rar compression is a lot better then zip compression. You can get a trial version at:
www.rarsoft.com
www.rarlab.com
Along with rar and zip support, they also able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z archives.
No it's not possible. Try winrar like gh0stface suggested. It's a much better program!
No I don't think it's possible, too.
If you want a new Filecompressor try the free alternative : 7-Zip
Maybe you have seen some files copmressed with this programm (file.7z).
Not possible.. but u can also try: WinRAR
(as already said..) it's just the best..
k thanks people
IMHO, 7-Zip is the best choice.
Also you can use the unrar utility for a standalone task (it is free in opposite to commercial WinRAR).
you cant open rar file on zip....but winrar can open zip files even create a zip files for you. winrar is the best file compression...it has many file compression format...
Not possible to do so.. but u can try the software: WinRAR
Iceows (soemthing like that)
Is good...
It supports
.rar
.zip
.ice
.ace
Many more I think
Of course .rar can't open by WinZip.
But .zip can open by WinRar.
Yes winrar because winzip is too old to handle RAR files

free alternative : 7-Zip?? I don't think so. It is a 30 day trial.
Feel the power of the RAR! WinRAR is far superior to winzip... lovely little proggy... if it was a woman it'd be Elisha cuthbert! Hmmm... jubblies!
which version of RAR? You might get away with it on old versions of RAR and new versions of WinZIP. It's stunning to see how many people complain that X.RAR is "corrupted" -- when it turns out they weren't using WinRAR to open the RAR
:duh:
i think my answer would be a bit diverted from your
question about would a .rar be opened in winzip but
this will directly solve your problem
i suggest you use winRar in your compression and
decompression issues because it has a lot of
advantages compared to winzip..
And it can open most compressed files unless u want
to open .ace which is larger in size..
if you want a better suggestion try using winace better
than the latter. you can try if from this site
http://www.winace.com/
Hope this helped you

I use IZArc...its free and it can open any kind of compressed file used by Windows or Linux. http://www.izarc.org/

No, it is free, and the source code is available as well.

Total Commander is the best file manager of all times and you can use it to open up any archived file. The best part is that its free!!! You can buy it to get rid of the pop up window that makes you click one button before you can use the program. It is very reliable and with many features.
One very useful feature is that you can split a file, ex. if you have a 128mb flash drive and you want to move 200mb file to another computer you can split it half and have two 100mb files.
not possible i think..
just dl winrar and open it
you can download winrar
i think winrar is more useful than winzip
this is not possible because of the way .rar files are compressed. They use a 1010 bit compression while .zip uses a 01101 bit compression. I'm not sure if the binary is correct but there is a difference somewhere there. Anywayz for .rar you need WinRAR. www.rarlab.com/
Win rar is the best . It can opne any compressed file. or u can use 7-zip
full version. I don't know the site but i have seen once full version of 7 zip for free
unposibble. But I suggest you use 7-zip or winrar.
I've become quite acustom to Ultimate Zip.
http://www.ultimatezip.com/
It handles a ton of archiveable files, but it does have that annoying pop-up.., if only I could find a crack for it.
hey, why stick to WinZIP? it' not for free, can't open .rar or .bz2. And it is verry limited in options.
You'd better get WinRAR as everybody suggests
WINRAR got the best compression. and it has damaged archive healing feature which did helped me a lot of times. another vote for winrar..
no, winzip does not open rar files, just get winrar, it opens everything.
Get Winrar its good its opens all of those formats.
instead of using 2 compress software, i suggest you just using one which can open both, like most of the people here would say.
Just use Izarc!
Izarc is one of the better free alternatives and can handle all common compression filetypes!
phew, this thread sure got a lot of attention
basically, as u must have figured out by now, winzip cant open .rar files.
So, just use winrar or 7-zip or consider one of the many other alternatives suggested.
I see no more reason to keep this thread open, so -close-
P.S I personally use winRAR
