I earned $ 103 recently, just got the cheque from google and there are many sites that make thousands. Adsense works no doubt. I remained always honest for my site www.psexam.com and saw the money collected gradually. Finally received that check and next 21 dollars are already accumulated.
Other ways such as clicking to get money or browsing to get money, these type of things I did many and always failed to get any penny.
So, develop your site, place advertisements and try to promote your site regularly. It is possible to earn this way.

I think the best way to make money through online is to make a website and put up advertisements from companies like Adsense,Adbrite,Doubleclick,widgetbucks and so on...!!
Also you can try some sites which offer money making plans for filling up forms or reading emails and so on...!!! Make a google search for the sites which lay out the plans for that....!!! Those sites do have a lot of plans to make money and most importantly be careful that some of them are not genuine...!!

You can try PTC sites of PTR sites. But one thing that you have to take care is that most of them are scam. Before joining these site do some googleing about the site if it is genuine or not. Finding a genuine job site is very very hard.
If you have some skills you can try freelancing as well. If you are a good web developer than you might get a good job. Just try your luck.

Firstly, i think you should differentiate the kinda money you want- whether passive or real income. If its passive, you can go with any of the options provided above such as building a site and adding google adsense and the likes. But if its real income you want, you will have to do more than that: First, turn your internet to a tool by focusing on something that interest you, then provide good solutions to people such as developing web applications, and other things that can be sold online... 
It's funny that people ask how to do money on internet.
Do people think that it is easier on Internet? or that there is a source of money hidden somewhere and that you just have to know where to get free money? earning on internet run in different ways. If you have interest in website ,then go for it. develop your site you will earn depending on ads. If you don't like site , you can make a shop on internet. Depending on ads is the main way. Just browse the net ,ads are in every corner.

PTC means paid to click. Most of them out there are scam, but only a few are legit. So, be careful before joining. If you need more info PM me cause admin don't like PTC stuff I think.
The easier ways to make money for me right now was selling backlinks on my site. Just sign up on Backlinks.com but make sure you have at least PR 1 page.

you can sell any thing on website lik ebay.com . Or you can be a power bloger. these day some portal sites like google give some money to power blogers with some ads.

http://www.facebook.com - Facebook is alternatively the upgraded version of Myspace. It also has millions of potential customers. This one to me is relatively cheaper on total cost. Your ads are also displayed more often, meaning more bang for your buck.

I earn $103 from adsense in 3 months. I got the cash 2 months ago. Now, i accumulated more $12 in it. My earning decreased because now I am busy in PTP sites and others way. i tried ptc a lot but leave it for low earning. I think paid to post sites are best for online earning.

If you really need to earn it may be better to find work in the real world cause its probably tougher to make money and be sure that you are going to get paid working on the net than doing something manual like cutting grass or delivering.
What Deanhills wrote is very true a good career need passion somewhere down the line.
