My new truck! I got my chevy! (pics)
So, I finally got my chevy: a 04 avalanche with 53000 miles and some nice options on it.
4x4 of course, and some nice interior options to go with it.
This one won't see serious off-road use because of its size and its lack of rollover protection.
It will handle the snow and ice here just fine though.
Whaddya think?

Sweet! nice ride.
Just don't let em catch you ridin' dirty

Great choice I say! I have a number of friends that have Av's and love them, good 4 door hauler to take people around town, and drive the family around in, and also has quite a bit of the utility of a Pick up. I have a friend that just picked up an 05 and it is a lot rougher looking than yours is, with more miles on it. Great find, low miles for the age, and well kept by the previous owner/owners, interior looks pretty good too. All in all, real nice find, real nice buy and real nice ride.
Oh yeah.....what's wrong, you don't want to drive the International back and forth to work and around town for errands.....you're not getting soft on me are ya'

Eh, it has a few things that make it less than ideal for a daily driver...
-Worn out front springs lean heavily around every turn, and make steering problematic at times
-Rear tires burn rubber on every paved turn, driving it every day would be hard on the expensive tires.
-Abysmal gas milage
-Not entirely weatherproof, and without A/C
-Highway performance is weak at best; 2WD high range is geared too high, making acceleration slow and high-speed hill climbs problematic.
-Maximum (recommended) speed is 60mph, it can go faster, but it is very uncomfortable and unsafe to do so.
-Trying high speed turns in it is terrifying
-Besides that, there is the 'softness' issue... It's LOUD inside, especially on the highway, and has few luxuries.
That said, if the military sends me overseas, I'll only be able to take one vehicle... and it'll be the scout. It's cheaper, it would be a whole lot of fun to turn heads in Europe or Asia with it, and depending on the country, it might sell for a very handsome profit, because vehicles like it are extremely rare in some places.

I was just kidding, and I with you on not wanting to drive your "Beast" back and forth to work it is a true 4 wheeler and really not a driver, and you listed the downsides pretty throughly. I'd drive the Av anyday over the IH. Like I said, good find bro
I personally have a car 99 Grand Am that I drive daily, and my 79 Chevy sits most of the time. Although it isn't built for off road like your International is, it is a tow and work truck, only has a 2" lift on it. It does see the trails in Colorado a few times per year, but that's about it. But even the way it is built it still is no where near as comfortable to drive around like the Pontiac is.
I'm with you on taking the International with you if you go overseas, I'm sure it is rare to see a beast like that outside the US, as most folks outside of the US just don't have the opportunity nor parts to build a true off road vehicle like it. If you go and take it, you can always buy some shit box little driver to tool around in and save on gas, as with the price of gas in europe it might be a little pricey to drive it daily, but being in the military, you can probably get away with not driving much at all if you are living on base.

Oh yeah, the plan is that if I go overseas, I drive the scout around as long as I care to, sell it for a nice profit, then buy one of the many small, efficient cars available overseas, preferably, one that's not marketed in the USA. Then, when I go back to the US, I sell the small, efficient one, again for a nice profit, to someone concerned about 'high' gas prices and the environment.
