I have tried Xoops, Drupal, flatNuke, phpnuke, Mambo, joomla and a few others. They were all cool, depending on what you wanted it to do, but I went with Mambo and later to Joomla after it's release. It's pretty powerful and the only hard part to it is making it look like what you want, regardless of the template used.

xoops is great, everything is in their webpage. The modules secction is quite comprehensive.
I have had trouble finding stuff for joomla, the website is confusing. I want to figure it out. may be I am wrong but what i have seen so far is so confusing, also most of the stuff like templates are commercial. fantoibed
