Have any of you seen the new features of Google Earth? Pretty cool - if you ask me.
You can:
- See ocean terrain imagery from the world's most advanced sub
- Be among the first human entities to explore the deep sea
- Use a toggle switch to view change in imagery over time

The only issue for me is the 3D ocean. I have trouble diving into the water to see underneath. Anyone have tips?
Thanks,
Gregg
Google earth has always been radical actually anything google makes is radical except the mobile phone platform
Tried the street view feature of Google maps?
When looking at a street map, look at the top left corner of the map, you'll see a little orange man icon. Drag that icon onto the map, and most of the streets will glow blue. Drag the icon to one of the streets, and the map changes to a 360 view from that place on the street, which you can move around in.
Google actually drove a van with cameras on the top all over to get these street images, and the results are astounding. I can go to my mom's street address with it, and (recognizably) see her in the driveway!
Whats is wrong with the mobile platform? I don't use it, but i would like to...
Yes, the street view is amazing. Usually you can tell when they took the photos by the objects that are in and around your house. I wonder what kind of car they drive around to take those pictures. Must have a 360 degree rotating camera...the fact that they can mosaic all those photos together almost seemlessly is amazing!
I am a geographer so this stuff is very interesting to me!

My mom saw the car: it was a minivan with a strange thing on the roof and a Google logo. Only after seeing the Google maps feature did we figure out what that was: the strange thing on the roof was a circular array of cameras pointing in all directions, evidently taking photos every so often.
Sounds about right. The cameras have a built in GPS so that they can quickly reference each photo to the maps. And there you have it!
Ya google street view is brilliant. It is truly amazing how they achieve all this stuff. I wonder will they reach new cities... I heard theres a couple of lawsuits facing them at the moment..?
They have caught some interesting stuff in those pictures, too... there is a picture of a man walking along with an assault rife, a picture of a fist fight, a guy urinating, and several others.

haha that link is pretty good
i remember when google earth first came out i kept zooming in on my neighbors house when he was over and tell him i got a close watch on him.
I also heard that a guy got arrested for a robbery because the Street View feature had a picture of him committing the robbery. Pretty cool - but kinda scary at the same time!
wow...thanks dude for this pretty google earth.
What is next.... "street view" of the bottom of the ocean
I must admit I'm very impressed....
You know how they blur the faces of people.... this is an automatic process, and on one picture I saw (sorry, no reference) there was a picture of the front of a Kentucky Fried Chicken shop.... and the face of Colonel Sanders was blurred.... a classic !!
