Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org) is a great site.

Here is a good blog entry of 20 websites to download ebooks from. Although, not all of the sites on the list are exactly legal.

What exactly is you definition of legal, i think if it can be downloaded with me hacking into a sight then its legal for me becuase i have no "idea" that the software actually costs anything

I dont know for sure as it is a long time since I downloaded any ebook but I think there was some site by the name of esnipes or something like that.

Until now it's the best that I've found :\
well www.scribd.com is also a great ebook website but it doesn't exactly have books that you may be looking for. it is more for DIY, cooking and stuff. But i did find The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z. Books both by Max Brooks, they are both a great and humorous read.
