I have a website ,hosted by frihost.how do I add counter in the site and can track from where my site is opened?

I think you have this feature in Direct Admin. Try to find it. Or you can try http://www.google.com/analytics/

well, if you open Cpanel, there is one topic listed as awstats
open it, you'll find a bunch of important info... you'll also find a section called reffering links or something...
it gives you all the links from where people redirected to your website....
like if you had posted in some frihost forum, and your website's name was in that post, and someone pressed the link to open your website, then, in that section, it shows you that link.. i.e. something like: www.frihost.com/forums/V12345 or something..
there is www.statcounter.com you can use it as a counter, tracker for keyword tracker, visitor, keyword search etc... you can try this you can register free account also
you can use http://www.clustrmaps.com/
ya http://www.clustrmaps.com/ is also very good
