So, they announce that the championship will be decided by Wins.... and then due to a protest that is reversed, so this year it will be decided on points as before.
Personally I do not mind, provided the decision is made clear BEFORE the season starts (as it has been this year).
The problem I potentially have with the "Wins" situation is taking last year.....
- the "Wins" is to encourage drivers to overtake
- at Belgium, Lewis Hamilton won the race.... yet was penalised because his overtaking manoeuvre was deemed to be unfair
- so Massa "Won" a race, that he in fact NEVER led at all
If this situation arose.... then what should happen.... if Hamilton has broken then rules.... then I agree he should be penalised.... but if he was the race winner.... then surely no-one should be given the "Win" for that race....
Having said that.... maybe Bernie Ecclestone should decide who is going to win before the season and save us all the effort !!!
My preference in this is to go to a system where we stay with points.... but the points for winning is more... like the old system, 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1... but if more points have to be given then maybe
20 for a win.... 14 for second.... 10 for third... 8 for fourth, 6 for fifth, 5 for sixth, 4 for seventh, 3 for eighth, 2 for ninth and 1 for tenth.... (or something like that...).
That would reward wins.... but also reward consistently good performances...
