Jade Goody has died at the age of 27, it has been announced.

The reality TV star passed away in her sleep at her home in Essex this morning following a battle with cancer.

Speaking to reporters today, Goody's mother Jackiey Budden confirmed: "Jade died at 3.55am this morning. Family and friends would like privacy at last."

Goody was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August last year. In February, she was told that she could not be cured after the disease spread to her liver, bowel and groin.

The former Big Brother contestant waged a public battle against the illness, speaking regularly to the press about her treatment and symptoms. Though her decision was controversial, the publicity has led to a sharp increase in the number of women coming forward for cancer screening.

Her publicist Max Clifford told Sky News: "I think she's going to be remembered as a young girl who has, and who will, save an awful lot of lives."

Recent newspaper and magazine deals also allowed Goody to secure the future of her young sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, four.

Clifford added: "She was a very, very brave girl. And she faced her death in the way she faced her whole life - full on, with a lot of courage."

Goody first rose to prominence by competing in the third series of Big Brother, which aired in 2002. She was also followed by cameras for her own reality shows and appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

Sad for the kids to lose their mother.... but a relief to many of us that the publicity machine will soon stop (we can but hope).... wonder how long it'll be before conspiracy theories come out that her death was "planned" for mothers day....

Aah, so a useless person of no consequence or actual use to human society died? Good lord, that's a first Shocked

Honestly; I can't see why there aren't several articles over the death of everybody else who never particularly contributed much to the world. It's just so horrifically depressing Sad

Possibly you have to live in the UK to appreciate this one. This lady was a TV star in the UK, and so got diagnosed with cancer, and sort of made it a big public scene. She went completely bald so perhaps you may recognize photos of someone without hair. She decided to get married right at the point where she was in the final stages of dying, and the paparazzi was with her almost every second of the day. Her hubbie to be had problems with a court hearing, and that got also to be photographed to death .... pardon the pun here Shocked And then she died .... that was also quite public.

I liked your comments though, got me laughing as you really have a good way with words .... Smile

Edit: Just picked up on another thread in this forum about the same subject. It has a photo in it, perhaps you will recognize her?

The lady has guts for sure. Wonder how she did it? Have you seen an interview with her perhaps where she said something about "her zest for life"? Smile

Oh please...let us not lionise Jade Goody.
I feel sorry that she died from a horrible illness at such an early age. She was an ignorant bigot who's only claim to fame was an appearance on a rancid reality TV show. The subsequent publicity she 'earned' was largely because of her unbelievable ignorance - which the viewers liked, because it made them feel superior.
She publicised her illness, apparently, because she wished to provide for her children. Personally I have no problem with that, but to pretend she is some sort of hero is nonsense. The reason that she got so much publicity is simple - she hired Max Clifford as her PR, and Clifford can make a turd smell like a rose.

Thanks for the sober input Chris as well as additional info. Glad she provided for her children and makes more sense now.

Not to be a prick, but by your calculations, she won't die for another couple weeks yet. Can I get a ride on that time machine?

I'm sick of 'reality TV' stars being turned into bonafide celbrities and culture heroes. Most of these people, including this woman, only fed the public hunger for trash. They, and their audience should be ridiculed and shamed into nonexistence. Maybe one day all these reality TV cockroaches will finally crawl back under that single-wide trailer they came out from and let us have our airwaves back, so we can stop seeing people like Perez Hilton get famous on a reality TV show about making fun of other people on reality TV shows. I swear, it all makes me want to puke and s**t at the same time.

Laughing Laughing Laughing This was an entertaining posting for me. I agree, the public is being exploited, but at the same time the public is consenting to being exploited, as perhaps there are enough of the public interested in these stories to justify the huge press coverage. Life is yuck enough, so if some folks find some escapism in chanelling into these stories, I'm happy for them. At least cheaper than alcohol and drugs. Would you say this is much different from those "survivor" programs? At least in Jade's case it was for real. There was something good in it for people to relate to. She was a mother with children, and she did what she had to do for them, and I can't imagine it must have been easy for her, even though it looked effortless.

That is exactly the problem. The nutjobs are a minority, but they only have a power base in the apathetic, complaicant majority of spectators.

This is the mentality that justifies the dumbing down of people. Just because it doesn't cause a car accident, doesn't mean it's harmless. This acceptance of garbage tells the entertainment industry that they don't have to work harder to entertain us, because we are satisfied with crap.

I'd say it's exactly like those survivor programs. Contrived, scripted, fake competition designed to exploit the worst attributes in the contestants, and people cheer it on.

While Jades' case may be unique in it's content, sadly it shares the same audience as the rest. I am glad she took care of her family, but I'm not too sure I agree with the way she did it. An intelligent documentary about her medical condition would have been a better route, though it likely would not have made as much money.

Good point, like that guy who made a movie about his last days, think Nicole Kidman played in the movie. Glad to note that you have the same impression about the survivor programmes. Smile

What ever ones personal opinion of Jade is,she is a cultural phenomenon, she is as much an icon in the new millennium,as Princess Di was to the last one. Stick Jades picture on the front of any newspaper or magazine and it will sell, very few people can do that, outside of David Beckham, she is arguably the most recognizable face in the country.

What that says about the society we live in i am not sure, maybe she is a reflection of our society,do we blame Jade for that or do we blame ourselves,we buy the newspapers,we buy the magazines,we watch her TV shows, without us,there would have been no Jade Goody.

(italics added)

This is exactly my point, so yes, I think we should blame ourselves. For the same reason we should blame the complaicant inaction of religious moderates whenever a fanatic goes on a murderous cruiseade. Without a group of spectators with whom they identify themselves, they would not exist.
I don't blame the producers of these shows, especially when we had a huge writers strike in Hollywood. The average 1 hour sitcom for cable TV costs about $3million USD to produce while reality shows such as UPN's "Top Model" and the popular "Apprentice" cost around $800,000 and just under $2million, respectively. With lower production costs and high ratings/profit, reality TV is a no-brainer for the industry. In a business sense, it's brilliant.

The issue I take is with the audience.
Not long ago, there were literally dozens of daytime talk shows. Phil Donahue and Geraldo Rivera, etc. They just got more and more idiotic, until we ended up with Jerry Springer capping it all off with guest panels that seemingly walked out of a David Lynch film about an inbred carnival side-show. The antics got worse, became staged, and eventually resembled pro wrestling. People just couldn't get enough. Reality TV is very similar, it's just a different format. It glorifies the worst in people, and yet it is cheered on for that very reason. The acceptance of this behavior is what promotes and perpetuates it, and the audience is truly to blame.
It's alot like the paparazzi, unless and until people stop buying gossip magazines, the paparazzi will continue to be a dangerous beast with no moral code which can kill even a Princess, and have no culpability whatsoever. Our lack of complete disdain and protest is tantamount to full and utter support.

Again, just my opinion.

A good one. When I click around late at night and land with some of these celebrity hosts, I have to click on, as can't help but just rolling my eyes. Sort of has become a marketing exercise for celebrities, cozying up to the hosts, and the one trying to undo the other with being "funny". In fact there is so much marketing involved of products, take for example Oprah and the books she seems to be endorsing through her shows as well as other products and services. Twisted Evil
