towed car?

Anyone else had their car towed by the city before?

How much does it cost in your city?

Been ripped off before by the towing company?

I've yet to have my car towed. Then again, the only time I've really brought it to a city was when I was first purchasing it, because it came from the city.

I got my car towed in Daytona Beach once on Spring Break. I forgot the exact amount it cost me (around $100). I called the company and the lady told me it would be much higher if I waited til tomorrow to pick it up. So I paid for a cab to the towing company at midnight to get the car. Well apparently she was full of it as there is a "late night fee" so it actually cost more getting it at night (on top of the cab fee). So yea, it was an unpleasant experience.

Thank God this has never happened to me. I dread situations like these and so I tend to be very cautious of where I park and whatnot. But anyhow, goodluck!

Never had this happen to me either... but I do ride my bike, so naturally my chances are lower =P

Ditto. Would hate it happening to me as I do not have much patience with bureaucratic time-wasters like these Twisted Evil

I have never had my car towed for any reason, so I have no clue what it would cost.

When I was in college I had this girlfriend who moved into a new apartment complex. The town was a total college town so there were many people moving in and getting ready for classes to start. The apartment complex failed to inform us that the parking spaces facing the buildings were resident reserved parking and the spaces facing away were for guests. When we finished unloading the truck we decided to go grab some dinner. When we came back my girlfriend's car was gone! Not really knowing what had happened, I parked in the same space her car was in. We went inside and began calling the apartment complex and local towing companies trying to track down her car.

After about an hour of unsuccessful attempts to locate the vehicle, we decided to call it a night and go look for the car in the morning when the complex office opened. I walked out to where my car was suppose to be and to my horror, my car was GONE! With steam still coming out of my ears, a tow truck came around the corner. I flagged him down and let a few profanities fly when he admitted that he had towed both of our cars because we didn't have resident tags on the window.

The driver continued to inform me that to get our cars out, we would need to show proof of ownership (which we didn't have because both cars were in our respective parent's name). We then had to find a notary on a SUNDAY to notorize a document that said we were the child of the owner and had the right to PAY them to get our cars back!

I was so mad that I filed a small claims suit against the apartment complex for failing to inform or provide resident tags for us. They fortunately settled with us but I have hated tow truck companies ever since!
