Only surround channel of 5.1

dirkvb
Hello everyone

I've got a computer with 5.1 surround system, windows vista and wmp 11.
Now I was wondering, how could I get the wmp to play at ONLY the surround channel of the 5.1 surround.

This so that when I play a game, that sound comes out of the front-line-out boxes, and I can plug another pair of boxes in the surround-line-out to play my music.

I tried to find a match on this forum, but I couldn't get anything, nor at google.
Have you folks have any thoughts?

ps: I've tried CSII controls v1.4.2.0 of SRS labs, but I can't get the register pop-up open because it's for wmp 9 and 10

UPDATE: CSII dialog showed up, but it doesn't work properly

Change your system to a stereo speaker system either with the official software included with your motherboard/sound card or in the windows sound and audio devices > speaker settings window.

I don't think you get the system I wonna get to.

I want to have my music playing in the backsignal of the 5.1 surround.
And the gamesound in the frontline of the 5.1 (front)surround.

And this two sounds at the same time.

Not all the sound in a stereo line, because you then get the same sound in the front and rear line.

I hoope you now understand what I intended.

dirkvb,

Try the basics.
1. Turn your computer and speakers off.
2. Unplug your speakers and completely undo your wiring.
3. Re Plug in all the wires. Note be sure to verify the proper sequence.
4. Power on the speakers.
5. turn on the computer.
6. Cross your fingers.

Yes, and then? Because when I would do what you say, I would get a normal 4.0 surround system. And I want to have my music play at the back speakers of the surround ONLY. And even when I normally play my music, wmp would see it as a stereo line out, and not as a 5.1 channel sound.

Do you understand what I trying to get to?

I don't think that this is possible with winamp. I should use vlc media player for playing your music. When you can program, I think you will be able to change some configuration settings on the playback code page. If this wouldn't be possible, maybe you should force the parsing of your audio files to a Dolby Digital stream and put only your stereo sound in the surround channels. I realize that this is not a nice solution, because the conversion of your normal music to an ac3 file, will take some resources. At that time, you maybe better write a conversion program to do so and first convert all your audio files before you start to play your game. Or if you are really good at programming, you probably could program your own player...?
Another option would be rewriting the drivers of your sound card, but I think that this option is the most difficult one.

I'm not sure what you use to play music, but if you are willing to try Media Player Classic, you can try this.
Configure your game to output only stereo, which should play on the front speaker pair. (Atleast it does so on my 5.1 setup)
Then configure Media Player Classic to output music only on the rear speaker pair by defining a custom channel mapping -
