DDR3 2Gb of ram vs. 3Gb

titus1972
Hello, i am a power user and i was wondering if i should upgrade my laptop from 2gb to 3gb for $50+ (expensive because it is DDR3)
or to 4gb for $100+????
or, should i just wait for prices of DDR3 to go lower???
right now fry's electronics has 4gb of ddr2 for $23

The currently available DDR3 ram will not give you a discernible performance benefit over DDR2.

Personally, I'd get DDR2 - they're so cheap these days, it's almost like a free upgrade.

personally, I would wait for DD3 to come down or use DDR2.

I wouldnt recommend 4gb of ram unless you were on 64bit, your laptop will only read maximum 3.75 I believe to 3gb
jvpgmunden
32 bit only use up to 4GB. 64bit provides up tp 32 GB

Actually jvp, 64bit can use up to 128 GB of ram, although if you find one that can hold that much that isn't half a million dollars let me know. Wink

If you have money to spend, then by the 4GB DDR3 Razz
In my case I would wait for the prices to lower or buy the 3GB DDR3 if I was really in need of more performance...

I would go for 4GB RAM, especially if you're a power user. Not sure about DDR3 though, it seems that the price performance ratio doesn't justify it.
