NHL Trade Deadline

The playoffs are getting closer.... and next week sees the NHL trade deadline (March 4th).

With the Salary Cap - there appear to have been a lot less big trades this year....

Most teams will only be able to bring in any new players if they also get rid of someone.

So - do you think it will be a busy deadline day... ?

My thoughts are that it'll be very quiet... (in comparison with previous years)

I'm surprised ... it was kinda a slow year, but I think the uncertainty of the cap next year kept alot of teams out of the trade market. On the plus side, my Sabres dumped Alice Kotalik.

As a flames fan, I'm loving the Jokinen trade. Lombardi is a great skater, but he doesn't have much finish. Jokinen will be a great addition to the Flames. Leopold is an upgrade over Giordano, who is out until at least the playoffs. If the Flames could just get healthy, (Bertuzzi, Bourque - I'm looking at you guys), they have a pretty solid team. The only thing they still didn't address is a backup goalie. If Kipper goes down, the Flames are done.

As is being perfectly shown in tonight's game with Carolina !!!

Although, is it worth having a good (and therefore expensive) backup who will spent most of his time on the bench.

Two equally skilled netminders could share the icetime.... but that just isn't done when it comes to the playoffs....

That's what made cujo the perfect backup for the Flames. He was reasonably cheap, was perfectly happy with whatever game was thrown his way, and could steal a game here and there. I was a little disappointed that they let cujo go.

I wish Ottawa could have gotten Joe Corvo back. Actually, I wish they never would have traded him!
