Fla. Governor Continues to Back Obama on Recovery

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Florida's Republican governor says the GOP should be willing to work with Democrats in a time of economic crisis.

Charlie Crist is taking some heat from those in his party who say he's too supportive of President Barack Obama's economic stimulus bill.

Appearing Sunday on NBC's ''Meet the Press,'' Crist says that he's willing to give the new president ''a shot'' and to try to help make his economic recovery plan work. The package passed Congress with almost no Republican support.

According to Crist, the key for the GOP to regain power in Washington is doing what's right for Americans. He says that means taking an approach to governing that is compassionate and fiscally conservative and marked by common sense.

The governor admits that Repubs need to finally start doing right for Americans. Hmmm. Sounds like a reasonable guy, I wonder how long he'll last.

This is not what he said. What he said was that the GOP needs to stop opposing the democrats on ideas that make sense. The democrats could take a hint from this guy as much as other republicans could.

which is pretty much what I said. You can waste time on hairsplitting about this but it's beside the point. And now...
UPDATE:
Bush family still trying to mess things up, as George P. is slamming Crist for this common sense bipartisan approach to the financial crisis.

Jeb Bush's son chides Gov. Crist for seeking stimulus
The Associated Press
February 22, 2009

ORLANDO - George P. Bush may not be ready to follow his father, grandfather and uncle into politics just yet, but he is trying to help the Republican Party regain a conservative message, which on Saturday included criticism of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.

Bush, the son of former Gov. Jeb Bush, grandson of former President George H.W. Bush and nephew of former President George W. Bush, addressed a national conference of young Republicans and told them there is a rift in the party between fiscal conservatives and what he calls "D light" -- Republicans trying to appeal to the political middle.

"There's some in our party that want to assume that government is the answer to all of our problems," Bush said. "I'm not going to name any names." "You know who I'm talking about," Bush said, as the crowd attending the Young Republican National Federation murmured and laughed a little tensely. "That's problematic. We as conservatives have to ultimately balance the federal government's checkbook."

Bush, 32, lives in Texas and works as a partner in a real-estate-investment firm. He married in August 2004 and joined the Navy Reserves two years ago. He said he would like to start a family. In the meantime, he'll continue to raise money for candidates and help promote the party message, but he said family and a career are his main focus.

On the other hand, such divisive and nonsensical rhetoric might just help keep Republicans lost in the wilderness.

I think it was Robert Ringer, a famous guru who said that some of us tend to make true that which we love to be true, and others see the truth as it is. I get a feeling with Handfleisch that he has a reality that he loves, and then he clicks around the Internet to find quotations to make that "true".

Perhaps that Republican is in trouble as we speak, as possibly Xanatos saw the truth in what he said, however a number of people just grabbed on the fact that it was a "Republican" who said it, and that totally twisted it. Feel sorry for the guy. Difficult to be truthful in the media. They seem to go for what would make a popular headline and try to find evidence to substantiate that headline. Instead of finding and reporting on the truth as it is.

Thanks for pointing out the truth. Think another misconception is that all Republicans by nature of being Republicans are opposing Obama. As though they could not care any less what his policies are and are resisting his suggestions blindly whether good or bad. Perhaps they just do not agree with the bale-out package. They voted against it. And since it has been voted in, probably now have to make the best of it, meaning trying to do damage control. That means that they would have to find areas that they can cooperate on to minimize the damage. Good part for the Republicans is that in the future they would be able to say that they were completely uninvolved in the decision. Democrats will have to take full respnsibility for the decision. Think the Stock Exchanges response to the bale-out package is a good indication of it not being a good one.

Well, that doesn't seem very nonsensical to me... Who's going to bail the government out after wasting trillions trying to save failing businesses?
