how did you before interested in science?

How did the people on here that chose a science major become interested in science? Any interested stories or how you got inspired to follow down this path?

I have always been interested in science. But if you are looking for inspiration I would have to say that science fiction books were a huge influence. I used to read these all the time. The thought that maybe one day I could invent something cool like what was in those books...
Also Carl Sagan.

What else am I supposed to do? Apply what I know?

I did my science major due to my interest in Mathematics! Yes, I used to like Maths a lot, but was not much of a fan for science. I took some physics classes, and the prof was quite good, that made me hooked.

Science fiction made me read more about it afterward.

A love and reverence for nature, at the organismal and ecological scale. It's always been there; I remember before I even started school watching nature documentaries like they were candy, being outside and watching the birds, enjoying the trees... it's just always been there. I like to know what I'm looking at and why they do what they do, why they are where they are...

If you haven't guessed, I'm a biologist Wink

On the general level of biology/ecology, it just seems to be innate. But it's much more clear-cut when you look at why I study insects; that's a much more recent development. I was always a bird and fish guy; I could tell you all about the birds and fish in the area; where they were, what they were, what they ate, etc. I took an entomology course in my third year of university, partially due to the field work involved in curating an insect collection, but as a means to better understand the birds and fish that consumed the insects. Through the duration of the course, the professor's zeal for the subject (beetles in particular) had a pretty heavy influence on my outlook. His zeal, coupled with the intense diversity of insects had me hooked; they cover most every conceivable niche, there are more insect species than any other taxon, and when you really start to look closely at them, you realize that they really are quite beautiful... yeah, even the ugly ones Wink

From that one course, nearly 5 years ago, my entire direction of study shifted. I virtually have no interest in vertebrates anymore, though I still love my birdwatching, fishing and such that allows me to get closer to the natural world around us.

What got me into science is my obsession to know "Why" and "How" i always need to know Why something is happening (even if its just society not science) and How like how planes fly how chip sets work etc etc

I am not a scientist, but wait! Maybe economics can be considered a science. My major is in economics-statistics and I am a little more than just an accountant now. I became interested in sciences since I was in 11th grade, when I realized that I was always looking at the stars and did not know why I was doing that. I started by following a star, each night and I finished by wondering why the starts are mostly in the same place, even if I was running... Did they run faster than me? Bun when I stoped they stoped also. Then I seen people runingbut the starts where not moving from my position. Now, here I am trying to learn something, bit by bit, more and more and maybe someday I will be able to say that "I know something.."

Since I was a little kid my mom taught me how to observe nature and also taught me a lot of chemistry. My school was really bad in science, so I really didn't learn anything useful there. When time came for me to decide what I wanted to do I knew only two things: I loved animal behavior and I loved experiments...so that led me to biology, which was the perfect choice for me. When I started college I learned so many incredibly things on the first year only that I new I had chosen correctly. Right now I am studying to earn my PhD in neuroscience...and I love working at a lab. But I won't lie to you, it is hard, I am not very social and the worst thing is that the more you study...the less you realize you know...which can be frustrating at times...but it's the same for everyone and its what makes science so exciting.
