"How come" is the correct term.

It is more or less correct in common usage, but it would sound better if replaced with 'why is'. Ghost Rider103
That is not always correct.
Example: How come you have lived here for so long? (This is correct). Why is you have lived here for so long? (This is incorrect). No matter how you try to put the second sentence, it will not be correct. That sentence simply cannot be correctly completed while starting with "Why is". "Why is" only works with things like "Why is the sky blue?". However with this kind of sentence, "How come" will work. Example: Why is the sky blue? How come the sky is blue? They both sound correct.
