My dam dell ::

It's a laptop XPS 15 which I bought about 4-5 months ago.
All of a sudden - bam! It hangs! And .... when I restart it, Windows Vista keeps saying "starting windows" for 20 MINUTES! Then, I restart it again .... guess what ... FATAL ERROR. SYSTEM WAS SHUT DOWN with a blue background screen. And that keeps happening since.
I have 3 options:
1. Buy a new laptop (highly unlikely)
2. Repair it somehow (re-install the Operating System)
3. Wait for a miracle (this is just there as a cynical joke)

Please tell me what I should do!! Idea Sad Twisted Evil

Tried booting into safe mode? This will tell us if it's hardware or software.

Well, you should do #2, and if that fails, #1. Laptops aren't really as repairable as desktops.
#2 will probably fix it; it sounds like a software problem.
If you still have a guarantee from dell, send it to them to get fixed.

If it's only 4-5 months old, then you should still have a warranty on it.

If you don't, well then you should have known better than to buy a dell without a warranty. But I thought all Dells came with warranty's?

Oh ... I have a warranty. Well, I tried Safe Mode .... same thing happens .... FATAL ERROR.

Now, I tried re-installing the OS but the CD doesn't read or maybe because Windows can't start up, it can't read or something like that. Is there a way to run the CD without starting Windows?

If I don't fix it by Wednesday I'll have to send it to Dell. The problem is I'm traveling at the moment.

Right after turning it on, you should see something like 'press F1 for setup'
Use that, then find the configuration option that sets the boot disk priority. Make sure that the CD drive is first.
If it has an option like 'press F10 for boot device selection', just use that instead.
The particular key in each example may be different, but it is usually F1, F2, F8, F10, F11, or DEL.
