I don´t like smokers

tomede
I am staying at this motel, and we are on the non smoking section part. Well, our next door neighbors were smoking. They were smoking so bad that the smoke was in entering in our room. So, my wife came back from work and she smelled the smoke. So, she went up to the front office and she told the receptionsist about it, and she told him that she did not want to make a scene by calling the police and having them come out.. My wife did not like her response.

The people next door was talking very loudly and it was very strong smoke coming from their room to our room. Do, you think that management should enforce this rule to renters, that if they occupy a non smoking room and that if they are smokers, they should instead choose a smoking room.

I wonder if the receptionist whom gave them that room asked them if they wanted non smoking or smoking. That way if they were smokers they could have had a smoking room. And if they were not, it would be their choice to choose if they wanted to be in a smoking or non smoking room or not.

But, there are non smoking signs on the front door specifying that the room they were checking into is a non smoking room. I wonder if the renters paid that any attenetion. And if the housekeeping noticed the smell, then they should do their job and repoort this matter to management ASAP.
Although, the room we was in has an smoke alarm in it, it still does not give others whom are smokers the right to smoke in an non smoking room.

Think you need to find a Hotel chain who is really good with non-smoking, as I know what you mean. What is the point of having a non-smoking room, when the neighbours are chain smoking and of course the ventilation system would have smoke entering your room. Some Hotels cater for this. You just have to figure out which Hotels they are. On my trip to the UK I used Sofitel and found that their rooms were both sound-proof as well as genuinely no-smoking. I am certain that kind of construction had to come at an extra price for them. At the Hilton Hotel I found lack of sound-proofing, but non-smoking OK. The front door of the hotel rooms banged close, so every time when a neighbour in the vicinity entered their room, the bang would be loudly heard in your room. I also used Premier Inn, a budget chain of Hotels, and this is when I learned that the Premier Inns are not equal, in being virtual franchises. I found the rooms of the Premier Inn in Bath Rd near Heathrow Airport in London excellent, from a non-smoking room point of view, whereas the one near Gatwick Airport had smoke hanging over the whole of a corridor of supposedly non-smoking rooms. Due to lack of proper ventilation construction. Ironically the better Premier Inn charged less per room than the yukkie one near Gatwick Airport.

Yes smoking is a gross habit.. I don't smoke nor does anyone in my immediate family. However I do know some smokers. I feel kinda sorry for them. I would hate to have such a dependency on something that will ultimately kill you. Plus it stinks! Your clothes, your breath, your home, your car, everything...

Just received a item I ordered of e-bay and Oh my god it reeked of cigarettes! I did not expect this. I will definitely ask next time before I buy. I'm hoping it will eventually air out after being out of that environment for a while.

I do believe there is a lot more these days who have quit or are trying to quit and that is a good thing. There are some who have tried several times and just can't seem to kick it. Dependency is a very powerful thing.

Then there are some who just do not care. Those are the one's who are careless smokers. They are who I believe you are referring to in your post.

Where I live smoking is banned every where even in the Casino's and bars. It's wonderful to be able to go out and breath...

I'm also not partial to smoke. When I was in the UK last week, I noticed a great number of smokers. They had to congregate outside, and the irritating thing was that they congregated under sheltered bus stops where we were waiting for buses. And it was not a question of just one smoker, a great number of them. Wonder whether it is a sign of the times in UK where there is a great depression from the recession and so many people either under great pressure in their jobs, or under threat of losing their jobs.

Sometimes when I order something offline, and I open it up, it's like opening a nicotine stink bomb. Smell warfare.
:S It's so unpleasant. For that reason I always list my items as from a non-smoking home.

But same thing when I'm in public. I will be waiting somewhere, and someone will stand right next to me smoking, and I'll have to get up and move because it's too unbearable and I don't want to make a big deal out of it. Or they'll smoke right in front of doorways, and the smoke gets trapped in the building when the door opens. I don't get it. Why would you want to smoke standing in front of a doorway when there's benches off to the side where you can sit down and relax?!

When I went to Las Vegas for a trip, it was absolutely terrible. Cigarette smoke was everywhere, and I spent a lot of my time vomiting. I was very glad when I left. (I still enjoyed the video game arcades, though.)

When we get a hotel room, I try to make sure we get one higher up, and with a balcony and slider. That way you can have the slider open without worrying if it gets too smelly. (Although I usually go on trips within California, and smoking inside buildings isn't too much of a problem as long as it's at least a decent place.)

But yeah, I wish smokers would be a little bit more heedful about where they're smoking. Same thing with people who fart near you. Man, go somewhere away from me if you gotta toot. Don't do it right next to me!

I hate smokers, cigar smoke makes my throat itch like hell. It really disturbs me when i have to walk past smoking zones. its a terrible habit, my dad used to smoke and as a consequence had well pretty bad consequences and ended up dead through that and bad health problems. Its not a necessity and shouldn't be a 'want' in life, its unfashionable and unhealthy to smoke.

Non smokers are also a pain at times

They should manage to find a better way to work out the stress, if they started smoking because they got stressed then I don't think they would last long.

Through the whole Norway it's not allowed to smoke inside in public places, some locations might have smoking area but it's usually apart from the rest, so we are lucky. Many has stopped smoking after some years with that rule, and now I read somewhere that it's starting to be 'uncool' for kids to smoke, more and more teens thinks that way, which is great because smoking has many bad backsides.

a couple of years ago I went to Spain, they have no rule against smoking, and it's not even hard for 10/12 year old kids to buy smoke, clubs were filled with smokers, the same was restaurants and other places.

For me they can just continue to smoke, it's their life they are ruening, if not their health then their wallet.

I really wish we could prevent smoking in public. At college, I often find myself walking around smokers, and it just bugs the heck out of me. I don't care that people smoke, just as long as they do it away from everyone else.

Though I never hate smokers but I don't like especially if they smoke around me....

Fortunately, there are no smoking in every public area for my country, not many place welcome for smokers.

I detest them. I loathe them. I despise them. I abhor them. I hate every single atom that makes up their body. Smokers are the scum of the earth and this world would benefit more if all smokers were killed and every shred of tobacco would be destroyed, preventing new smokers. I hate the way they stand outside an entranceway holding a cigarette, breathing in its hideous fumes and blowing it out. I think it should be against the law for people to smoke. They should get the death penalty. I hope one day I will kill at least one smoker, preferably someone young. Everytime I see someone smoke, my mind fills up with so much rage, I want to lash out at them, but for some reason, something holds me back.

One of my proudest moments was when I called this fat, smoking, female ****** a pig. That's my name for smokers. They have been taken in by conglomerate murder companies to buy their products and to manipulate the minds of non-smokers to join their "Army". They do this through television. Tobacco ads have been off the air for decades but there's still smoking going on in the programs. Smokers nonchalantly smoke away while no one else cares.

Wow... Ummm... what can I say? I don't smoke but you're just being unreasonable.

So... You're basically just being prejudice against people who do a certain action that you don't like but that doesn't affect you... You then say that you want these people dead... What if I told you that I was a vegetarian and that I wanted all meat-eaters dead? I'm saying the same thing... What you said was just morally wrong.

Oh yeah and the world probably wouldn't benefit from the death of all smokers. The U.S. especially would be hurt. The U.S. government (and many other governments) tax the hell out of cigarettes. It's a money-maker that greatly contributes to economy. That reminds me of a joke I saw on television one time that had a woman deciding to smoke because it would raise tax dollars for education ("This one is for the children!").

What is up with you, Dude? You want to lash out at someone just because they do something that you don't like? It's polite when smokers stand far away from the entrance so that you don't have to breathe in their smoke as you walk into a building but you're just being unreasonable. Why would you get angry over someone minding their own business smoking? You especially shouldn't get mad at them if they're standing far away from non-smokers and you have no right to lash out at them.

That's extremely rude and it's pretty freakin' (I just had to stop myself from using another similar word that starts with the letter "f") pathetic that making fun of a woman for being an overweight smoker is the proudest moment of your life... I feel really sorry for you, actually. Maybe you should go out and accomplish something in life so that you can truly be proud of something.

Now you just sound like a conspiracy theorist. Tobacco companies are not forming an army, here. They're simply advertising their product and then selling it. Of course they want people to smoke. All companies want people to use their products. That's how they earn a paycheck. How are the tobacco companies being any different from any other company? I sell Craftsman tools in the hardware department of Sears for my job. Am I trying to form a "Craftsman Army?" No. I'm trying to take home a paycheck so that I can pay my college tuition.

Then just let smokers smoke! I personally don't smoke but I honestly couldn't care less who smokes! It's a personal decision. I personally love freedom. Hell, I love freedom so much that I think marijuana should also be legal (although even if it was legal in the U.S., I still wouldn't smoke it).

So in conclusion, I am extremely glad that you're not the ruler of this world because you are morally detestable! You also contradict yourself. You're angry that the tobacco companies are "killing people" yet you want to kill a bunch of people yourself? Nice.

Provided they keep themselves to themselves I don't mind.... but it is when the smoke creeps into everyone else's environment whether they like it or not.

I guess I am lucky in that no-one in my immediate family smokes - my mum used to.... but managed to give up at her second attempt. The fact that both my parents used to smoke is probably a major reason why my brother and I both don't smoke... and hate the atmosphere.

Before they changed the rules in the UK to ban smoking in public premises, I have been known to leave a pub/restaurant - inconvenient for me... but I would rather be comfortable.
