SSL

Would it be possible to enable SSL support for at least the cpanel?

It would be nice to know that everyones login info is not forced to be sent in plain text as you never know if it is going to be seen by anyone in located between the source and destination nodes.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

I too think it would be a good idea to have SSL enabled, even for at least cPanel, because I would feel a little more secure when sending my login info over the net. However, I don't know if it would be enabled, because, then everyone might be able to use it for more than just cPanel. But then again, it might be possible to limit the use of SSL to cPanel only, cause I know that the SSL version of cPanel would work under port 2083. But, we will have to wait and see what Bondings has to say.Smile

SSL..I think you need some cert for it right?
dan751
Yes, A certificate would be necessary in order to have SSL. A certificate could either be purchased, or created via OpenSSL or something, which can be a chore.

You can't have SSL on a hosted website, as each SSL website needs a unique IP address. I've posted about this previously:
http://frihost.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8581

And the SSL cPanel is already enabled! You can get to it here: https://frihost.net:2083/frontend/x/index.html
The encryption is only 128 bit though, so it's not that strong.

nice Cool . I tried it before though but it didn't work, but for some reason it does now. (No, I didn't forget the httpS or the :2083).
I don't really care of how strong the encyption, just as long as it's not in plain text.Smile

yes, even I noticed that it wasn't working before.
But I only tried it after many days when daniel here claimed that it was working.

I like to check my mail over secure channel, hoping that my password might be a little more secure this way.

Removed the trailing slash and thanks for letting me know that there is SSL available for the cpanel.

But, I ve heard that althought ssl is not possible, you guys could enable a shared ssl..I have that on another free hosting service...Why is that that you cant???
Bondings
hilander, the problem with DirectAdmin is that either all DA logins are secure are all logins aren't. And because quite a few people aren't able to access the secure control panel due to their netwerk setup (like school), there isn't much choice.
hilander
it cleared it up,,Mr Bondings,,thanks for the reply
