Just Uploaded my Site Map

Possum
Hi

I just created a Sitemap and uploaded it to my root Directory.

Do I need to tell Google its there. (How?)

Or just wait and let Google find it.

Also I used http://www.xml-sitemaps.com to generate the Site map.. They mention this

Quote:
Please enter the full http address for your site, only the links within the starting directory will be included. For instance, "domain.com" and "www.domain.com" are not the same.

I'm wondering is there difference between

http://udopage.com

and

http://www.udopage.com

Both seem to point to the same page. But would the site map created with either or one of these URLs be seen differently by Google

Cheers Possum..

You can add the url of your sitemap in google webmatser tools.

Go to your google account, click on webmaster tools, add your site, (if you haven't already) then click on sitemap, and submit the url of your site map.

some people are too lazy to do a search on google to learn how to work with google tools... they should get their sites banned from google... LOL!!!

Perhaps you are right. But this is all new to me. And I have answered plenty of questions myself that never get posted here.

I've been working on building my sitemap for weeks but it's giving me errors. Something to do with broken links or what, i don't know! Sad

@Possum: For your question no there is no difference between the www version of your domain and the regular from google's point of view. Before google used to see these domain as 2 seperate entities but I don't think that's the case anymore. If you want to be 100% sure you can add the following to a .htaccess file in the root of your domain to make sure requests from udopage.com get rewritten to udopage.com

# ensure www is in url
rewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^udopage\.com [NC]
rewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.udopage.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Give it a try and let us know if you have any problems!

@Zsupermassive: Maybe you can give us a bit more details on the problem(s) you're having in a seperate thread so that the 2 issues don't run over each other Smile
