Incompatible Video Controller Vesa Function 0x4f02

Well this morning I booted up when I got to my first class for the day, and I was surprised to not see my usual BIOS loading screen but rather just the f2 for setup and f12 for boot menu.

When pressing F2 setup say's its loading for a second and then I get screen full of this:

F12 and Diagnostic gives this:

In safe mode I can't see anything, it's just black.
When running regular mode I can only use vista basic color scheme. This sort of magically happened this morning, and I suspect it's a hardware issue. I just wanted a second opinion since the folks over at dell seem to think its a driver or OS problem (ha!).

I might also add that I have already:
- Flashed the BIOS to its latest version
- Reinstalled the video driver (twice)
- Plugged in an external monitor (which by the way showed everything with no problems at all)

Anyone have any ideas? :/

So this is a laptop? If so, its unlikely that it has a replaceable video card mostly only high-end gaming laptops have replaceable video cards..

If a different monitor solves the problem, you can usually assume that the monitor is the problem.
(The only other possibility is that for some reason, the video card has over time become incompatible with the monitor, which would be very strange.

Do you have a Dell Inspiron 1705?

If so:

Call dell and they should be able to help with any hardware problems. Laptops usually have mostly unique setups, so Dell should know best.

Actually I have an M2010, so I doubt that function exists. Also, yes the video card should be fully replaceable as it is an ATI x1800 and not an integrated card.

I was just curious if anyone thought this might be a virus which was my initial conclusion because of the hearts replacing my BIOS setup screen...

Dell is supposed to be picking my computer up to be shipped out for repairs soon Sad. I was just hoping I could solve it on my own first so I'm not without a computer for two weeks. With any luck they'll break something else and be forced to upgrade my motherboard Very Happy. Still, not having a computer for two weeks is really going to suck.

welp, my computer went in for repairs last thursday. Sad I'll let you guys know what I find out about it.

Just got my computer back today, apparently the motherboard and video card were half-fried. So they were replaced Smile This thread can be closed.
