usb external HD

Dear members,
I have a problem with my external HD.
When I connect it to my pc with 2.0.Usb, than the system reset itself.
After that the HD works fine.
I work with XP-prof

Who can help me?

i think you have a conflict driver when inserted the external device...sometimes the driver is the cause of the problems we encouter in our computers Very Happy

Could be a driver conflict but is more likely to be a power issue. Some USB devices will SURGE power when attached to the PC. This is most common when attaching the device to an intermediate port, or USB hub device. The daisy chaining of these USB devices can sometimes cause power issues which may explain your 'reset' problem.

The Hd is connected to a Hub but it doesn't matter if I connect it direct with my pc. I stil have the problem. Does anyone know where I ca see if there is a conflict. I get no balloon that xp found a conflict

Take a look at this short google groups discussion. It indicates that USB drivers have had some significant updates in varios XP service packs.

Are you running Windows XP SP2? Even after SP2 application be sure to do any pertinent driver updates from windows update.

Who is the manufacturer of de Harddisk? If you give a bit more information, more people can possibly help you.

Another tip: Look on the supportpages of the manufacturers website.

That's why it took so long to give an answere, I installed my XP new again and nowI have no problems. Today I install the other progs and let you know if the problem occurs again.

Was it a package device, or did you have a HD in an enclosure?
