I use 3ds max to make graphics just wondering if there is anything better out there?
3ds max.
I think 3Ds Max should be sufficient for your purpose.
There is also Maya, Softimage, Houdini etc. each with their plus and minus points.
Maya is more used when working on heavy scenes (very high polygons) etc.

Cinema 4D is also very good.
I personally choose Cinema 4D over all of them. But they are all really good, it's just a matter of personal preference, and how well you know each one.
But some are used for different kinds of 3D work. Like house modeling, car modeling, 3D text and animation, etc.

Do you use BodyPaint software too?
It comes with the C4D bundle, I suppose.
How is the learning curve?
So far, I have only used PS for texturing .....the manual way, I mean
There is no just better, mainly you can do anything with any mayor products.
The main thing is which UI, which workflow, which way of thinking is fit best for you.
So try out some - 3dsMax, Maya, XSI, Cinema4D, if you not into animation then modo, if you into dynamic/particle simulations, animation then Houdini, even a free one is realy good if it fits you, Blender, and so on...
Ofcourse there is difference in the fields where they are strong, but those only come out in huge projects with big workflows (hc animation, motion picture vfx).

I too use Cinema 4D but all of those programs are very good. Cinema 4D has a very nice user interface, it is very easy to learn modeling with C4D, but each one has its pros and cons.
I've never used it, but it's a very capable software I believe, because a lot of big game studios such as Blizzard are using it to develop their character. I myself using Maya on daily basis, and I do not recommend it to people who just want to play with 3D for fun, because it's a very complex software build for high-quality digital content creation. But for someone who's serious into 3D / Vfx business, I'd recommend it since it's almost a default software for Hollywood film production houses.
Hi
3DS Max is great!
But Maya is the best for NURBs modelling.
ZBrush is great if you want to model like a real sculptor.
At the moment, I teach Maya, but I hope that I will be teaching 3DS Max real soon because it is far more intuitive.
poppat

I think it depends what you want to get into. Industry pipelines are generally maya/xsi for film and commercial work and i guess 3ds is used for visualization work more.
i use maya.

And also in the game industry. Majority of game studios in the world still rely on 3Ds Max as it is more compatible with the game engines.
I really can't use that program. I tried to make abstract models, but i really always fail. Looks so complicated. I'm going to try C4D, seems more people succeed with it and generally prefer it ;P
4D Cinema is also very good
