Math Question - doubling percentages

slashnburn99
start with 100,000

this doubles to 200,000

this again doubles to 400,000

considering started with 100,000 and now 400,000 (have i made 400% profit)

Or 300%

100,000 - 200,000 = 100%
200,000 - 400,000 = 200%

Total 100+200 = 300%

Is the answer 300 or 400% or another answer?

Thanks

Are these your maths homework questions?
slashnburn99
Bikerman you are too kind, afraid i am in my thirties

I am starting the quest of writing a book and have had the complete joy of confusing myself no end on percentages.

Basically, all i want to say is starting with 100,000 at blackjack(pontoon) and ending up with 400,000

How much is the win expressed as a percentage, keep having two answers 300% and 400%

400% is how much the stake has grown and 300% is the profit?
Bikerman
Correct. 400 is your new stake. 300% is the profit margin.
Think of it this way - you put a bet on a horse with odds 3 to 1.
Your original stake is then returned with triple the amount in winnings, giving a total of 4 times the original.
