Jeep 1 - Tree 0!

So, I'm cruising along a snow-covered dirt road at around 40 mph, when I hit a turn...
This turn was facing the sun all day; it had melted, and now late in the afternoon it had refrozen as solid ice.
Naturally, my jeep continues in a straight line, and the brakes aren't very effective at all. I do manage to slow down some, so I end up hitting the tree at around 20mph (30 metric).

The awesome thing, though, is that my jeep is so tough that the head-on collision with a full-grown pine tree caused only a small dent... In the tree! My jeep was not damaged at all! Most of the trucks out there that are advertised as being durable would have easily been put out of commission by that hit.

Thanks to the new bumper I put on it, I'm now convinced that it can survive nearly any front impact and still soldier on. Just one more reason I love driving a jeep.

Pic of it with the bumper:

glad you were OK, and that you're enjoying your motoring in the snow.....I had a bit of a slide on the Lambretta yesterday, but fortunately there were no trees to hit ! Confused

Jeeps are very durable vehicles. It is very lucky that you weren't hurt and that your jeep wasn't damaged.

Yep, no 'crumple zones' here!

do they have roll-bars (a cage) fitted as standard inside?
That'd be my biggest fear, to roll the car over & get crushed.
Sad

Yeah, jeeps have much better roll-over protection than normal cars. They have heavy roll-bars tied into the frame. I've seen one driven off a 20 foot cliff, and land upside down. The driver and passenger then got out, rolled it back over and kept on driving!

One time, my mother's Chevrolet Trailblazer got hit in the side with a Nissan Maxima who had lost its grip on some ice and couldn't stop. It wasn't going very fast, but it's still a collision. The Maxima's front end was ruined, and our truck had nothing but a miniscule, pea-sized indent on the side of the door. When our insurance company was calling us about it, we refused to make a claim because there wasn't any damage to make a claim about.

Hm... Looks like I might have been a little prophetic there... Given that about 10 days later, I rolled my jeep off a 20 foot cliff, with somewhat similar results.

So your jeeps a bit rough now?

This is unrelated, but I think its a pretty funny jeep pic - it shows off the roll cage pretty well too.
