I just upgraded from a geforce 5500 fx (ancient) to a GeForce 8400 GS (ok for just PCI). Soon thow iam just guna biuld my own from the ground up, cheaper overall that way, if you know what your doing
Video cards
Yeah, it is about the same right now. But if you build it yourself, you get the parts you want. The main thing I would do if I was you is to get a new motherboard, so that you can get decent graphics, if you plan to do anying thing more then word processing.

Yeah it is a great card and overclocks nicely.
If you're looking for good performance for only around $150, then the 4850 is good, but if you're willing to spend the extra money, then the GTX 280 is just great. You won't need to upgrade from that for a long time
