China : Exam Cheaters go to prison

HansR75
There is a new proposition for a new law in China :

It concerns public exams like exams to be allowed to a university or a job for the governement.

Cheaters will be treated as criminals and even can be sent to jail.

What do you think about that ?

*EDIT by tidruG: Here is the source. HansR75, the next time you post something in ANY forum, please read the rules of the forum. I normally don't bother looking for sources of news articles, I just lock them. This one had already started a discussion, so I did spend about 45 seconds to look for the source and found it.

I think it's a good idea, only because they are taking an exam that leads to a public job.

I think it said it was for cheating on exams, not murder.

it's only exams make harder to cheat but jail? very stupid idea indeed .

they shuld only not allow to that person to do this test again...

If they're working for the public sector, then it's a different story. What if they're testing to get a job to drive a bus, cheat on the test, and kill your daughter? Would you still think it was a stupid idea?
nik
how the hell you can cheat on driving test? i dont' know about you but the driving test here is you and your tester in a car driving around the city..

Rolling Eyes

First, it was an example. Perhaps you've heard of them? Second, it's not just DRIVING that's in the tests, there's a, you know... written part also.

So how about answering the question? Would you still think it was stupid if your daughter/sister/mother died because someone cheated on a test?

I'm not sure if I agree with them being jailed, but I think they should be permanently disqualified from every being hired by the government. They should also be required to put that they cheated on their resume from then on.

I'm shocked tidruG hasn't jumped on the posting rules for this thread.

It's hard to lock threads when you're asleep, lol.

Yeah, so let's get down to business shall we? Right, here we go:

HansR75, you should have quoted your article and posted a link to your source. It would complete the story and give us a better idea as to under which conditions a cheater gets sent to jail. It probably is a test for a very important job or some special circumstance.

I am very much inclined to leave this thread open since it's already started a good discussion, but rules are rules and too many members have complained about this forum's topic-starters not following the rules. So, I have no choice but to lock it. Of course, if you find the source, PM me, and I'll reopen this topic... actually, anyone find the source of this story... it's pretty interesting.

-locked- (unfortunately)

*EDIT* Found the source. Not everyone gets sent to jail. Onle those found leaking exam questions of the National Exams may be sent to jail.

ok, unlocked.

Yup.
shr3dd wrote:

And Yup.

By cheating in ANY exam, the offender is stealing a more deserving person's opportunity.
Employement is at a premium in developing countries like China, and stealing someone's job is a big crime.

Also, the person who cheats will be assuming a position that he is not qualified for and perhaps not even capable of.

And since I think S3nd's hypothetical scenario just might be a little too far-fetched, I would not like to see imprisonment or death penalty as the punishment for cheating.

A lifelong ban restricting the offender's employment in public positions might be more apt.

i dont think this is a good idea, for they only cheat on exams not a murder. Maybe there are good means to control the cheating, but only throught the law, i dont think thats a widse choice.

now got licence so i know about it.. the writting test is easy and 6 years old can answer it...

and i cant' see how it can harm someone directly...

i dont' say cheating is good but the punishment is to extreme...

China's situation is not simple, how to judge a cheater? In China, this is not clear.so this law may be cause enmity and
extorting chance.
billgertz
well, this is indeed a strange law if they will implement this.. its very hard to identify those people who really cheats during classes.. the proposition is okay but i guess it only for the licensure examination or national exams.. i dont think there's somebody who never tried cheat in his entire life.. it may also depends on what type of cheat the're going to do. for example, you can cheat your wife, yes of course you can be in prison by doin that.. do you gusy agree? or you can cheat your mom asking for bucks for a fieldtrip that doesnt exist.. theres' a lot of cheats that we can think of.. hehehehe
